Stunning. Best I’ve seen from you John. A touch more hairlight to differentiate her from the background for a slight improvement. Great angle and light though.
Well done mate.
Si
Not Pete the blokeParticipantHave to agree with Si, Jack! Hope you enjoyed working with Nell. Well done indeed.
Jack_RyanParticipantI did
she is a pleasure to work with, only sorry it took since 3rd June to get the images up
and thank you for the comments guy’s
RobertoMemberI agree with Si about the hairlight (or background light).
But very good portrait.AliParticipantWell done John :) (especially without the use of a light metre). I might gaussian blur the backdrop as it’s slightly distracting.
All in all a well composed shot :)Jack_RyanParticipantciaranParticipantJack_RyanParticipantciaran wrote:

to be honest its not that hard to say that and mean it ;)
but thanks anyway, it did turn out well, imagine how surprised I was
ciaranParticipantTo quote a phrase from Simon
“Be self critical, but don’t beat yourself up!”
That shot is really really good John, you should be very happy with it. Forgetting about your earlier stuff, as an image on it’s own – it’s excellent.
carlParticipantJack, I could really see that shot hanging on the wall of the showroom of Newbridge Silverware.
Jack_RyanParticipantThorstenMemberI like the “one more” one, because it so blatantly breaks the traditional compositional rules and that adds a strong element of tension to the image.
RobMemberMick451ParticipantMuch prefer the second one ‘one more’ because the composition is far better, reminds me of some portrait paintings by Whistler in that sense. Personally the angle of her head in relation to the line of her shoulder is a mite too severe for me, just looks a tad awkward and uncomfortable. The choker necklace looks a bit loose on the left side, her right, which should be a more snug fit. If I sound like I’m being very critical about small things it’s only because they do really matter. Most days I watch my wife in the studio spend hours setting stuff up and paying attention to every single tiny detail, whether it’s a person or a bottle of whiskey, it’s something you have to do if you want to reach a certain level in photography. Hope you take the criticism as it was meant, constructively and not dismissively.
