new colour and b&w of Ballycarbery Castle
-
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipant
Hi Folks, as you all noticed, i am kind of addicted to this castle. I found these files on my server, i took them 2 years ago but simple gave up with processing because i couldn’t manage the harsh light situation. I gave it a new try and i really welcome this surreal touch. What is our favoirte B&W or madeleine colour? Thanks M*
aoluainParticipantHi Madeline,
I know your feelings on Colour but I actually think the Mono version
is more dramatic and while it not colour it has more to offer,
If you know what I mean. The sun blasting past the ruin is beautiful and adds real mood.

Liam2673Participantb&w 10 times over…..only thing is i feel the sky is a little dark in b&w version.
justaguyParticipantI think it makes a stunning black and white Madelein.
Having said that its very nice in colour tooMartinParticipantWould have to see a print of both to really tell. The B&W looks best to me but I am always biased towards B&W anyhow…:-)
suspectmonkeyMemberI’d have to go B&W on this one. When I first read this post I could only see the colour photo on screen and I thought it would be the clear winner, but when I scrolled down to the B&W it just grabbed me. As aoluain says the B&W seems to have more to offer, I love it.
flynnyParticipantI’ll buck the trend on this one and go for the color,
Mind you they are both exceptional shots .MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantwow thank you everybody for your ideas, i am amazed that the b&w version finds the best responds. i think they are both very different images with its own light story!
AND: make sure that you all archive your images, take care of the raw files….you may will touch images again because you found mistakes or you find a better way of processing. My first try 2 years ago….was a big disaster ( ;
petergordonMemberI dont think I could choose one over the other. They both stand in there own right. Beautiful imagery..
Alan RossiterParticipantIf I were a “lay” person I’d say the colours in the first one were lovely. As someone who now has some experience in this post-processing lark I find the colours pushed just a little too much with the grass becoming almost lime. Funny how an opinion is changed based on experience. On the other hand the sun is manageable in the colour one but with the B&W it blasts any detail from the grass. I’m not a “detail in the shadows” freak, just an observation.
To answer your question I’d be with Martin in a B&W bias as it makes the image more dramatic.
Alan.

Good point well made with the photos above. It’s nice having archived images to go back to on a rainy day, especially if you have picked up a few more processing skills :)
