Adobe RGB sRGB
I’ve been meaning to make a point and shoot for a while now,
and Sinead’s upcoming Toy Camera event and exchange has prompted me to get up off my jacksy and do something-This was a shot off the prototype this morning-
Unfortunately, I got the lens in the wrong place-
it’s back focused by about 3mm, so every thing is a blur-
Maybe I should leave it like that?
It’s easily as good as a Diana…My old friend Jon was visiting from Oz,
so kindly stepped in to adopt a stance from his youth-joseph
Mick451Participantjb7ParticipantCheers Mick-
Perhaps you can help me with the colour-
Yes, he is pink, we remarked on that-
red actually-More to the point, is the border pink, or neutral?
The film is Fuji instant, 5×4-
I’m using it to test the camera, but will mainly use roll film-
6×9 and 6×12.It’s good that the lens lights up the whole frame, though the madness on the edge is just a bit too much-
6×9 mostly, I’d say-The instant film is nice, but without a bit more definition from the lens, it might be just too much of a waste…
eccentricity notwithstanding…joseph
DenverDollParticipantThink a lot of fun could be had with it just the way it..I like that Joseph~~
Sharon
jessthespringerParticipantI love it Joseph, it is proper eccentric, and the edges of madness, I love them, brilliant, they are!
Love the pose from your crazy red friend too.Fabulous camera knitting, well done!
So, does it have a name then?
jb7ParticipantThank you S & S….
I spend enough time here telling people to post in sRGB,
you’d think I’d remember to do it myself…Does that make any difference?
There might just be better focus to be had from this lens,
but the aberrations are a bit extreme-
Putting a simple meniscus in front of a diaphragm will introduce some distortion too-A name?
Its working title is the HeBGBjb7,
but if image quality improves,
I might re-think…DenverDollParticipantwooBwahBmayBheaven:-)..it really is as good as Sinead says..I was in such a hurry before..still am..pout
davedunneParticipantVery cool.
I can see a “+” version of this camera coming out on the Lomography website soon.
randomwayMemberIs that meant to be Karate Kid?
I am missing the tutorial with pictures, the “Definitive guide to make a HeBGBjb7”.. or is going to hit mass production and the idea is patented?
jb7ParticipantThanks Sharon-
you need a holiday, maybe we all do…Dave, what’s a + version? Do you mean the bigger film thing?
Don’t be sending those people any emails,
at least until this thing is finished…Yes Zoltan, The Karate Kid meets Joe Jitsu…
No, no pictures of the process this time-
not as many components or operations,
so this one will be born fully formed, so to speak-No patents either, I’m no Mr. Littman when it comes to sticking things together-
Besides, I’m not sure, but the patent on a box with a lens at one end and film at the other might have expired already…Anyway, still a little bit left to do…

A + version is where they take an existing camera, add in a few enhancements, get it made in China for even cheaper than you are making it and sell it for about 200 Euro more than the original.

Is that Vladimir Putin???? :D
No Pitmatic, not Vlad-
But he’s nearly as dangerous, so I’d be careful what you say…cheers Mick-
Similar flavour to what I’m looking at.
I calibrated the scanner against test targets,
so it should be reproducing colour fairly accurately-
ish-Dave, they wouldn’t do that- would they?
In that case I’d be extremely concerned about posting pictures of the camera up here…
They’ll have to work off the specification…
And use Oriental Walnut instead of the airplane propellor grade stuff I use…Multi Format Point and Shoot camera- 4×5, (instant) 6x9cm, 6x12cm, (roll)
Single element plastic lens in shutter, 50mm (ish) ƒ/2.8 – ƒ22 (ish)
Manual Focus (kindof) 1m – ∞
Rudimentary tilt and swing, but expected to be mainly used inadvertently…
Shutter speeds 1 – 1/500, B
Flash sync – X & FP…Well that hardly sounds LoFi at all, now that I look at it-
but surely the little moulded plastic lens qualifies it?Is that taking a LoFi camera too seriously?
Maybe the question deserves its own thread…It’s more or less finished now, just got to knurl a few screws, make a tripod mount, and wax it up…
And maybe a detachable focusing screen…I did another focus test tonight, but left it too late-
an 8 second exposure while balancing it precariously on a wall wasn’t very bright-
but it is an improvement- definitely a 6×9 camera-oops, I’ve been going on again…
GizzoParticipantdo you have a pic of what you’re talking about?
I am definitely not the sharpest tool in the box here, and an illustration will help me.
