New macro shots with the 70-300

So, after picking up my new Sigma 70-300 APO DG yesterday, I couldn’t NOT take a few photos out in the parking lot as I came into work this morning… Still getting used to the minimum focus distance, steadiness at 300mm, etc.
(this one was particularly hard, that tiny pink flower was blowing in the wind pretty good)
They look nice and sharp. Good neutral background in the first photo.
Like the second photo, something nice about it. Maybe its the water droplet or whatever that is.Have fun with it. :)
MarkThe backgrounds are mostly perfect. Might have been better not to have cut off the left hand side of the first seed head.
Good colours in the last two flowers and all seem to be sharp and in focus.
Did you use a tripod ?
All were shot handheld, crouching (with accompanying muscle tremors) in the parking lot. Didn’t really want to spend too much time out there shoting as people were starting to arrive for work :) It was windy, which is why the first one got the seed SLIGHTLY cut off. At any rate, the bokeh on the new lens is VASTLY better than the 18-55. It’s pretty impressive.
I was actually shocked at how nicely the second one came out – I wasn’t really all that interested in that plant/flower/whatever it is when I shot it, but upon further inspection of the shot I took, it came out quite interesting.
The colours, sharpness and bokeh all look fine to me. Could I just ask – did that last one have a selection blurred in photoshop or was that the actual dof ? Also what aperture is that lens ?
The only post processing was conversion from RAW to JPG, which includes levels tweaking, exposure and white balance tweaking. That’s all she wrote. The lens is a 4.0-5.6 – you can get individual shot info by clicking on the pictures and going to “More Properties”… The last one was F/8.
Handheld – very well done. You’re right about the bokeh, its seem good for sure.
