New to forum. Not new to photography

Hi Everyone,
I find this forum to be a such great source of practical advice about photography that I am glad to join in with you all.
Photographers are usually great people to talk to and I look forward to making new friends and learning more about
photography. I am strictly a landscape photographer but I also have an appreciation of portrait photography. My photography experience began by accident in 1992 when I worked as an electronics technician at a university in Scotland. Student engineering projects were being featured on large floor standing display boards and I was asked to take the pictures of the students and their technical set ups.
After that I was hooked and started reading photography books and bought myself some second hand 35mm gear.
I also got hold of a second hand darkroom kit and taught myself how to make B&W prints from my negatives.I carried on with 35mm photography after I took a job in Dublin in 1999. I even managed to sell a few prints and then one day in 2002 both my Olympus SLR’s packed up. This was a little bit inconvenient for me because by that time I had rejected the Dubln life and moved up to Donegal. Photography was my sole means of artistic expression and I did not have the pennies to buy a new camera because I was living from week to week and just managing to pay the bills.
I took up computing and did a 4 year degree then realised that I did not want to work full time for
a company as a programmer. The thought of sitting in a cubicle at work writing code all day did not appeal
to me and I needed to know that there was something else I could do with my life.During my degree years I got into digital photography ( by accident again ;-) ) only because my brother over in Scotland sent me a digital camera for my 40th. I could not believe the ease of use and quality of the results digital can produce when compared to film. I am glad I learned film photography but digital is like a dream come true because I can get the pictures processed when I want them and the results are usually very predictable.
I built myself a web site after I graduated and now I work at my photography every other day. It’s going well enough and I love the idea of doing something I love and having people pay me for my “work”.
My other areas of personal interest are web and graphic design and I have done a lot of background work on what is possible for photographers and artists who are trying use the internet as a source of income. I think the future is very bright in this respect.
I look forward to hearing from you and if you ever feel that I might be able to help you then please drop me a note.
Have fun.

Welcome!
PPaulDivParticipantThanks for the thumbs up on the writing everyone.
I joined a writing site a few months ago and it helped me improve quite a lot.
Some people in the forum on Helium claim to be making decent pocket money
but I have only earned 10 cents so far!
Surely a man can get more than 10 cents for his labour these days.I see an Arsenal supporter replied and noticed that there are a lot of soccer fans in this forum.
If you like talking football then thats great because it is my game too.Where you all from?
