Another attempt at tone mapping from a single raw file!!
C&C appreciated
Cheers Steve
irishshaguaParticipantAgain compositionally I think this is nice. Except for the buildings in the bottom left of the picture, they seem to be going against the flow of the rest of the buildings but the tone mapping comes off looking very coloured. I’m not a great fan of the tone mapping technique because of these problems but in this case I think the original would probably be nicer than this but thats just me.

Thanks Brian, yes agree about the buildings bottom LHS, perhaps should have cropped :? As I said in my other post this is my first attempt at tone mapping so appreciate all the feedback
Cheers Steve
jb7ParticipantI think this one is much more successful-
if only because it shows much greater depth-
As with the other one, I like the palette of colours,
but this one seems more controlled-Good to get a view that hasn’t been overdone too-

Thanks Joseph
nfl-fanParticipantYeah.. this is a great looking shot.
The HDR/TM have really given this image a very distinct look that works quite well. Some amazing sky there too just to make things even better.
The verticals do seem a bit alarming though… that being said I took her onto my own PC and I can see that straightening things up isn’t quite as simple as it seems for this shot.
All in all… nice job. This was obviously taken from a height, any idea how high up were you (floors wise)?

Thanks yes the verticals are something else!!!!!!!
This was taken from our hotel room window on the 11th Floor!!
Cheers Steve
ExpresbroParticipantI’ve never done Tone Mapping or HDR (are they the same animal?)..probably because I’m too lazy… But I like this affect….has an almost Marvel Comics look to it…though not as much as the Empire State shot. The sky really looks dramatic.
The verticals are certainly er..eye catching…actually making me dizzy looking at it…can imagine a big metal beam holding up that building on the left. But I assume that’s the wide angle lens and the angle shot at.
Certainly an interesting shot anyway Steve…I’ll pop over and check out the rest on your Flickr later :-)
