As we’re new here, please be gentle!!! :?
annnndd…
Many thanks for your comments in advance (we think!).
snaphappyMemberthese are both very well composed I think the first would have worked better in colour the second has a real atmosphere to it.. keep em comin
De-aRtParticipantThanks very much for your comments – tried the first one in colour but trust us it is much better in B&W. Anyway we have a penchant for B&W.
WIll post more soon! :D :D
snaphappyMemberSteveDParticipantHi Dee & Ronnie, welcome to the forum! Always good to see more photographers from County Down on the forum. The second image would be my favourite here. The composition gives a great sense of depth IMO, I didn’t realise Ormeau Park could look so nice! The figure looks almost haunting somehow.
Regards,
SteveRavenAshMemberLike the second shot, great in B&W and the crop works well.
Spooky figure.mgstParticipantThe second one is fantastic the figure and the mist really add to the atmosphere.
Mick
PixelleMemberLovely atmosphere in the second, almost a narrative quality, cover of whodunnit style of thing.
I’d have tried to reposition to lose the tree in front of the bench but perhaps that wasn’t possible.
neilmcshaneParticipantAs it has already been said number 2 is fantastic.
I had a look at it from tour website for the bigger version.Regards Neil
RobMemberWelcome aboard Dee and Ronnie.
Now, which one of you holds the camera and which one
presses the shutter? ;)Good to see you posting early, and an interesting duo of images too.
The first, well… not for me I’m afraid, but that may be just that I find it
difficult to take in so much information all at once. There’s an awful lot
going on here, far too much for me to cope with – dramatic skies, textured
rocks, the division of fields and hills, receding layers – I think I may need
to lie down. What I can’t find is a focal point to give the image some balance;
everything is vying for attention. Now the second, well, it’s an entirely different story. Love the composition
and framing and crop. What is that, 3×1? The only very slight distraction in
this is the bit of tree trunk edging its way in top left of frame. Aside from that
I love it. Keep ’em coming…Rob.
ossie13ParticipantWelcome Dee & Ronnie
Really like the second great composition and sense of atmosphere!!
Cheers Steve
JMcLParticipantHi and welcome. The second is a stunner, very nice.
Regarding the first, from looking at it, I’m assuming you’re combining multiple exposures to balance it. To me, it looks a wee bit unnatural in the shift from sky to foreground – the rocks on the right have a slight halo. I find it’s better to allow the darker exposure to bleed over slightly at the transition, it’s not an exact science, just play with it until it looks “right”. I spent ages messing around with this image to get it to look right, fully revealing the sea stack just didn’t work.
John
alzaphodParticipantHi Both of you,
Love the second shot, real atmosphere to it. Great composition and crop.
Not a fan of the first one.

AlanDe-aRtParticipantMany thanks for all the constructive comments and the very warm welcome.
Particularly pleased with all the comments about “A Walk in the Park” – we are very proud of that one and we have posted in on another couple of photography forums with either no comments at all or very few!!
By the way Rob, it’s ratio is 17×6 like the Fuji pano film camera.
Cheers
:DMarkKeymasterI have to agree that second image is stunning. Great athmosphere and detail.
I will be taking note of the crop also for the future to try out :)
