Hi everyone..
I’ve been thinking about getting into photography for a long time now and have decided to take the leap and buy my first camera.
For some reason I’m being drawn towards a Canon, maybe it’s because my Dad had one when we were growing up and he thought it was the muts?
Well, I’m thinking about buying the new Canon 40D Digital SLR, anybody have any thoughts on it? Also, I’m living in Newbridge, Co. Kildare and was wondering if anyone knew of any clubs for newbies in the area that I could get involved with?I have zero experiance and would appreciated any starter tips anyone can provide.. :)
Cheers,
squ1d..Alan RossiterParticipantWelcome Squ1d.
There’s quite a lot of Canon users here and some with the 40D that could provide some advice on this as well as Kildare residents.
Welcome to a fascinating hobby, and to an addictive website!

constantineParticipantHey squ1d, good to see you.
Have the 30D myself, and I find it to be a superb camera, so the 40D would be a great buy IMHO.
Stick close to this forum, ask many questions, and you will pick up the vital stuff really quick.
Have fun!!

GCPParticipantirishshaguaParticipantWelcome on board. The camera club in Celbridge is fairly successful at the moment but it might be a bit of a trek for you to get out to to Celbridge. Not sure of clubs in Kildare.
Big FellaParticipantHi Squ1d,

stcstcMemberwelcome to the site
there is a club in dunamaise dont know how close that is to you
I shoot with a 30d and a 40d, the 40d is a great tool
I have a battery grip on it, mainly for 2 reasons, 1 i have big hands and it fits much better with it, 2. It actually make the camera feel more balanced.
it is very well built and fast. no real complaints. well actually 1, they change the menus system from the 30d which i actually prefer, just one long list that you scroll down, so can be done with one wheel.
squ1dMemberThanks for the welcome everybody.
I’ve been having a look around and this place looks really great. I’m sure I’ll have loads of questions, probably a lot of stupid ones, go easy on me! :DsteelydanParticipantwelcome squ1d and enjoy yourself here, we dont bite.I have a 40D also and would highly recommend it. Although I am still finding stuff i thought i already knew, everyday I find something new with the 40D and still learning
