nfl-deckchair, you served me well, but it’s time to move on

nfl-fanParticipant
nfl-porta-hide arrived today… after spending the last 2 weeks in limbo in a Waterford Courier Depot…
Took her out for a 2 hour test spin this evening…
Light was fading… shutter speeds were too slow…
But the hide was fookin amazing…
20 birds all within farting distance of me at one stage…
I was in heaven…
A few shots… not perfect due to fading light… but not too bad either…
I’m going to go mental once I get some good light… a hostile takeover of Nature & Wildlife is on the cards.
Juvenile House Sparrow – A little beauty this one – Still finding her feet
Yellow Hammer – Still refuses to give me that perfect photo opp

Alan RossiterParticipantgriangrafParticipantRobMemberYour putting us all to shame John with the quality of these.
Marvellous specimen shots, pure textbook stuff. Make sure you
append these to the existing entries in the virtual bird book…miki gParticipantExcellent shots John. Is the deckchair for sale? I might as well just sun myself now as my shots won’t be anything nearly as good as these. Best of luck with the hide.
5faytheParticipantHi John,
As mentioned before, I think, I have never photographed
any birds (Well maybe by accident) so no expertise claimed. To my eye these look excellent.
Cheers,
John.
nfl-fanParticipantCheers lads.
The ‘ol deck chair served me well… certainly gave me a lot more flexability with the camera.
The porta-hide, whilst quite spacious and general pretty handy, is a little restrictive camera wise. I’ve some camo netting on order and I might make some minor modifications.
What’s great about the hide is that the birds act more naturally at the feeders… so you see a few perched and singing… a few good battles… and just all-round more relaxed behaviour.
The little Juvenile House Sparrow in #1 was brill to watch. She was perched above the seed feeders and seemed a little unsure as to how to approach them. She spent about 10 minutes looking down and assessing the sitution before finally figuring it out.
Can’t wait to give it a real try out at the weekend.

MallachtParticipantHi John these are awesome
Birds are my main interest but having seen these my shots are pure unadulterated shite
Back to the drawing board
Well done looking forward to your weekend shotsnfl-fanParticipantWe all started somewhere Mallacht.
I’ve the usual collection of naff bird shots on the feeders on my Flickr account from when I first got interested in them a little over a year ago.
Getting close, with decent light if it’s available, is the key I find… but it’s never easy… and I’ve plenty to improve on myself.
Thanks for the comments.
JPeteWMemberLike the cricket conversation elsewhere on this site, I’ve never seen the fascination with sitting around watching these little critters, but I understand there are those that do and fair play to them. On the other hand, when the fruits of this labour are as good as those the nfl is putting out here, makes me think there might be something in it….
Great shots John one and all. You’ve probably mentioned this elsewhere, but what lens are you using to capture these ?
mgstParticipantjb7ParticipantVery good John, some nice ones there,
would be good illustrations for a book of birds somewhere…As for the other thing,
well, I expect to see some pictures of you wearing it in the Fashion section soon…
I much prefer the looser fitting garment myself-nfl-fanParticipantThanks lads.

Funny y’is should say that – last night my sister called around… she thought I was raving mad sitting in this mini-camo tent thing. When I went into the house I put on my camo jacket and camo balaclava and posed with my tripod like a rifle as she photographed me on her mobile phone (Lofi ‘n all that).
