nfl wants to know – what do you do for a living?
-
nfl-fanParticipant
Might as well get a chat going…
I work for a rather large financial institution (yes, one of the one’s that fooked up the economy)… in their Asset Management division… in their I.T. Development department… which makes me a Computer Programmer… but because we run our department on €4.76 and a bunch of grapes you effectively become a Business Analyst, Tech Analyst, Developer, Tester, Post Go Live Support Doorstep and everything else you could ever contemplate… unless of course you’re one of the many I.T. Teflon men.
We spend more time filling out forms than actual I.T. work, signing them with our own blood to ensure that nobody creates another Enron scandal.
So… that’s me… exciting huh.
So now nfl wants to know… what do you do for a living?
justaguyParticipantsounds more interesting then me.
i work in a babysupplies shop. talking people into buggies and cots and that kind of stuff. most exciting thing maybe might be the car seats because people don’t have a clue what to buy or how to fit it safely. they all want to buy at argos but don’t realise that you can not just fit any car seat in any car.
Anyway with the economy at the moment there is not that many customers around.
So lads if you need a car seat pram or something else.
Please
BABYWORLD ROSCOMMONJodyParticipantAnd me…. I’m the IT Manager at Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort. Well, when I say IT Manager, I manage the systems… I’m the only person in the dept.
And at the moment with the economy that NFL’s company fucked up, you could find yourself working anywhere in order to help out if needed… although it doesn’t really happen a whole lot.
Nice place to drive into every day mind you.
cathaldParticipantWell I do fook all as I was made redundant 1.5 years ago
Give me lots of time to look on hereJody is going to give me a free greenfee for Adare Manor as I cant afford to play there………..
Just a guy hold tight for the big rush, because with everybody stuck at home there will be a big baby boom
so it’s all nfl’s fault then that the country is a shambles
kenhParticipantso NFL fooked the economy, jag is in prams, Jody is in computers, and Cathal is about to have loads of babies cos he’s the only one at home….let me be the first to congratulate you, big C! :)
nfl-fanParticipantMight I add that I work in the Asset Management… so we’re affected by bad banking too… the World Economy goes belly up, share prices hit rock bottom, client’s portfolio valuations hit rock bottom and our company’s fees hit rock bottom.
Alan RossiterParticipantWell, I’m a buyer. Not by choice I might add. I started out in a factory, then became supervisor, then moved on to other companies, eventually to Production Manager, then came to my present company to implement WCM (funny term of applying common sense into manufacturing which is surprisingly easy to do but equally surprising that manufacturing and common sense mix like oil and water). The MD of the time moved on and it was then deemed a fad (huh!) and an opening came in purchasing so in I slotted.
I also do some pimping at the weekends.
Alan
markst33ParticipantI work as a software/systems tester for an internet sports betting company based in the IFSC. And we seem to be doing business hand over fist at the moment although the suits will give you no info to confirm this. I had heard before that during a recession gambling takes off and from what I can see it appears to be true.

If it was exciting you’d be busy doing it instead of perusing the internet daily! … me too.
Much of the time it seems I write emails for a living – some are even meaningful. Like you John I am in IT. I work for a company called Avid who specialise in Digital Media Software – editing and ‘asset-management for the tv/movie/music industry. The best way to describe it to you lot is that they are to video and music what adobe is to photography (although adobe do video too.) I manage a dispersed global IT team responsible for Avid’s internal business systems. The team gets involved in the daily grind of minor support/enhancements and bigger projects normally involving roll-in’s of acquisitions, calve-outs of divestments, consolidation of business unit’s and so on.
So plenty of form filling and audit controls for me too.
Gary
BMParticipantI’m a management consultant – self-employed after spending a lot of time with one of the big firms.
I work mainly on technology-led change programmes – project management, business impact assessment, business case development, organisational redesign, mergers, management/operational impact assessment, documenting procedures, risk management (the list goes on) – and a lot of common sense – that can be quite rare in some boardrooms.
Generally interesting and varied – new challenges in each new project.
Just rolled off a large project working on a company merger, SAP roll-out and management re-organisation – FMCG but experienced across a wide range of sectors.
… so if anybody has some work for me …
randomwayMemberI would be called customer relations manager at a Hungarian firm. We deal with human resources, entertainment, hunting goods, security and of course, we have an extensive pharmaceutical line as well. My job is to meet our customers if necessary and explain them the importance of their personal security and to promote and sell our products.

This was a serious thread, Sinead. Now be a good girl and tell us what is your real job.
steelydanParticipantIm a machine operator for the Aerospace Industry, have been the past 22 years. We make engines for the private aircraft ,the ones that nfl’s butties travel all over the country in( and their dogs may i add).
Oh we also make parts for the Chinoook Helicopter , thats the only thing thats keeping us going at the moment because all the Americans companies were told that they have too many private jets, so sell them off.
plainoldmeMemberI’m a hippy student :D The kind that studies those odd subjects that people say “well what the FOOK would you do with THAT degree??” :P
