BrickeeParticipant
I bought some used Nikon gear as a secondary system.
I have always been a Canon user so this stuff is new to me .
If anyone has used this gear Please give me some feed back.
I am pretty sure that I did not over spend on this.
The lenses I an told are older Nikon pro lenses If you have used any of this gear please let me know what you think-thought of it.1) Nikon D100 with a spare battery
2) 14mm Ed 1:2.8
3) 17-35mm Ed 1:2.8
4) 50mm 1:1.4d
5) 400mm Ed 1:2.8 — Manual focusEverything seems to be in good working order.
Here is a quick shot of the 400mm taken up close with the 14mm.
Thanks Jim
AedanCParticipantHi Jim,
Good to see you joining the Nikon club at last. I knew you would come over eventually
I havn’t used any of that gear personally but you can see some test results below.
The 14mm Ed 1:2.8 lens is tested at the link below, not the most glowing review I’m afraid.
http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/88/cat/12The same site does not test the 17-35mm but site readers reviews give it good reports. All users except one give it either nine or ten out of ten.
http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/112/cat/13The 50mm 1:1.4d seems to be very sharp indeed if you stop down a bit. See the test at the link below.
http://www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/96/cat/12No tests or reviews of the 400mm lens on that site.

MartinParticipantThe best piece of kit there that stands out for me is the 17-35mm Ed 1:2.8 (they go for about 800euro 2nd had in Ireland). Absolutely excellent lens. They are still being made but there is talk that Nikon is to stop making them. They used to be glued to one of the the Pros Nikon F5 film cameras before digital took over, but now making a come back because of the full frame Digital Nikon’s

jb7ParticipantThat 14mm looks a bit fab-
very expensive too-
and a full frame lens-Hope you got a good sample-

BrickeeParticipantThanks fore your replies and asst. with this. So far I like the gear but am not giving up Canon (sorry Aedan  ). Just working both sides of the Brain.
The Deer shots that I posted over the last few days were taken with the 400mm f/2.8 ED. I am still seeking info on this lens. it is manual focus – manual aperture. One hears some crazy things when he carries a Canon and a Nikon at the same time.
aoluainParticipantThose Deer shots were great !!
more info on this lens . . . dont know if you checked this out!

BrickeeParticipantcapture3ParticipantBest of luck with the Nikon outfit, my observations
D100 great jpegs, slow to write raw, takes the old screw in shutter release and more comfortable with the MB-D100 battery pack
17-35mm, stellar lens can get squeaky if not used, can also be a sign that the internal motor requires attention , sharper at 35mm than my Nikon prime.
400mm very prone to internal fungus growth watch how you store this lens.
Any problems with Nikon I use :
SLR Service Centre, Rathmoylan , Co Meath.
Hope this helps :DBrickeeParticipantThank you Capture3
Any tips on storing the 400mm.
Also I just picked up an 80-200mm f/2.8 ed af non vr Any info on this lens.BrickeeParticipantcapture3ParticipantBottom of the hot press or somewhere the temp is fairly constant and dry. On a hot day, if we get any, leave outside for a while, the sunlight kill any potential growth. The 80-200mm is one of the all time classics, you cant go wrong with this, out of fashion at the moment with all the lightweight afs lenses around. Great lenses you have there.
BrickeeParticipantThank you for the info, I guess I did pretty good than I did not pay much for this gear. I Also got a 50mm 1.4, 20mm 2.8, a sb-26 flash and a Minolta light meter.
