I’m getting fed up with the af when I’m using my 50/1.4 lens at any aperture setting. If there is not enough contrast and light in the scene, focusing is just hopeless. I’ve realized that it’s only working well when shooting portraits. Does anyone else had problems with this lens? Is it possible that my d200 would have af problems?
Dont know about the 1.4 but i have the 1.8 version and the D200 and it works perfectly.
Does any other of your lenses give problems like this?
Do you know anyone else with a 1.4 to see if its your sample of the lens are the d200 that is causing the problem?
What i would do is pretend to want to buy the 1.4 in a camera shop like conns, berminghams etc and see do you have the same problem with another sample
When it focuses, it’s spot on, but it’s not always focusing on what I want… I’m wondering, whether I’m not using it with the right settings. It’s only the 50mm, my other lenses are fine.
For example, if I wanted it to focus on the closest subject and if the subject was facing towards me, it was working fine, if the subject’s back and black hair was facing towards me, it was focusing on the white background instead. I don’t get it. Probably I’ll have to read more about af.
My 300mm manual lens has no such problems, except when I’m drunk :)
