From a non-sectarian Canon user, there’s a hands on preview of the D3 over on Luminous Landscape to get all you Nikonians salivating and wondering if little Jimmy would actually mind just getting a lucky bag for Christmas this year.

    Oh yeah, he likes it!

Great write up,i wish i was getting the d3 instead of the d300.but its just to much money,i have spent the excess on two lenses, which to me makes more sense.any body here getting one,im sure there is.

Oh yes, its ordered. and the 24-70 to boot, arriving the first week of December. But the D300 looks like a nice bit of kit, massive improvements on the D200.

I hope mines black, I did not know there was an option. One white one in a bag of black would look out of place and added to that people might think I was carrying a Canon!! AAAH

Long lenses with large fluorite elements can be adversely affected by heat-
they can get quite hot in sunlight-
and the length of the barrel, and the relationship of the groups of elements within it, can be altered.

White is used to help reflect heat away from the lens-

    That’s the reason I’ve heard-

Had not thought about it in that way, it makes good sense when put like that. Thank you.

But I live in ireland and cannot remember what a strong bright sunny day feels like! so black lenses are fine for me, for now.

You gotta see this. It’s a You Tube video of a review of the D3. How about ISO 25,600?? Seemingly useable at ISO 25,600 (see, it wasn’t a typo). Live view, 11 fps and even has a aeronautical style level to aid tripod placement.

    Cheap at $4,999!

Soda[/quote]LOL,SODA,I’m using the d80 at the minute,it’s a brill camera. But when i saw the 300,had to have one with the battery grip.I hope to do all the road races next year, and with the battery grip(8 frames a sec :D )and 51 point focus,it’s going to be fun.
