Nikon D300 "shutting down" issue

Hi I was just wondering if anybody was having any issues with the Nikon D300 just shutting doen for no reasion.
Mind did it about 20 times between Saturday and Sunday at Mondello.
The short term fix is to turn off remove the battery and reinstall it.
Turn back on and get a “err” on the display press the shutter releas button and it works fine again for another while.
Any one else have the same problem or know of a fix????
‘err’ usually means that the lens connection is loose or dirty, try cleaning the contacts on the lens and the battery pins… call Nikon if that doesn’t help, you shouldn’t have any problems with a more than one grand worth of camera.
I’m sure you have the latest, fastest cf card-
could be worth trying a different one too-j

I agree – I had a very similar experience with a D70s and a Sandisk Ultra II CF card,sidelined it and never had another problem.
I have a D300 and haven’t had any issues
Have had my D300 since xmas – over 11,000 images so far many on high burst ( bike outings) and no issue for me I’m afraid – I’ve used up to 8gig Extreme 4 cards
The card I am using is a sandisk extream III 12 Gig.
I Have cleaned the contacts on both the camera and the nikon 300 f2.8 lens and battery and battery connections.
There are acouple of reports on the web about the problem with different fixes to it.
I will be contacting nikon tomorrow.
Fingers crossed thet if is a quick and easy fix.
Quick update…..
The error was happening on a “fully charged” battery leading me to think that it was a batery fault.
Replacement battery was supplied by “conns”
Problem still happening, 40 times on Saturday last.
Camera currently being sent to Nikon to get fixed…..hopefully back soon.
