Nikon D40 question
-
StevieParticipant
I can feel the veins around my temple starting to throb a little bit and would like to ask a question or two.
Ok – I bought a Nikon D40 – Auto Focus.1. Can I use lenses that are NOT specifically auto focus? Ie. – focus them manually like in the good old days? Like this one? Tamron 55-200mm f4-5.6 Di II LD Macro Lens – Nikon Fit – can it be focussed manually?
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=10118732. Can I use my lenses from my OM10 system? And if I can, will the aperture adjust automatically? (I had a camera years ago, that you would open the aperture to focus then had to close it down manually before pressing the shutter – if I had a penny for every time I forgot – I’d have £4.57)
I know I’ve tried to find the answers on Google, but to no avail.
Thanks
StevieParticipantTo answer my second question – no – Olympus lenses don’t fit and can’t be adapted to fit a D40.
So Q3. – Can Nikon SLR lenses be adapted for use on a D40?RestlessNativeMemberThe tamron lens you linked to is autofocus however it is the older style of AF lens which is driven by a screwdriver from the camera body rather than the af motor being in the lens. Yes this lens work work, you will have metering but no autofocus as the d40 does not have the af drive in the body. Same goes for any nikon AF lens that is AF-S.
The d40 has quite a small viewfinder so I can’t imagine it being that easy to manually focus one, especially with a slow zoom. You would be much better off with the nikon 55-200 af-s imo.
DeeboParticipantHi Steve
I have the same issues. I have a d40x. All lenses have to have their own motor as the camera does not have one.
I have a 55-200 and it works a treat. not the fastest lens but great in good light and very sharp. You can also use sigma but they need to me the auto motor or hsmDee
