Nikon kit stolen

I had a disaster Thursday night as both my car and my wife’s car were stolen from outside our house with my camera bag and kit in it. The contents:

    Nikon d80, Nikkor lens 18-135m lens 3.5-5.6, 50mm f/1.4, 70-300mm VR lens 3.5-5.6, 105mm Macro lens 2.8

Other kit included SB-800 flash, Hama Star 20 tripod, sekonic 308s

If anyone hears of this up for sale, can you alert me pls?

Secondly, a note of caution, most car insurance cover just €500 of personal effects. Don’t leave your gear there overnight !

Thanks derrycity. Am from North County Dublin, though that’s no guarantee where the car and kit could end up !

Thanks Sheldon. I was in with Mark yesterday and gave him the list. Not sure how the insurance claim will go but if I have any luck, I’ll be dropping into you.

    Hi Joe,

I’m really sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Your experience is a lesson for us all.
I always mean to bring my stuff in from my car at night but it is disturbing
how often I neglect or forget to do it.

Another lesson is to check insurance policies and ask questions when renewing.
My business vehicle insurance only covers stuff when the vans are occupied. :?

I took out business insurance (Premises/public liability etc) in 1989 and last year
I dropped a laptop only to discover that my office equipment wasn’t covered.

I hope you get your gear back.

    Cheers,

    John.

Joe sorry to hear your bad news. It may be worth your while checking market stalls in the area.

    Joe,
You might be covered on your house insurance. I dropped a Canon 40D and a lens into the sea last year. The lens was named on my house insurance, but the 40D wasn’t as it was only a week old. It was covered under an “All Risks” policy on my house insurance. Covered up to well over a grand for any one item if memory serves. Check it out, it might be on your policy too.

    Joe,
You should also post the serial numbers. It will help a lot. t is very unlikely that thief will go to Sheldon’s with the whole lot, however, google will be able to trace your gear numbers and maybe somebody will find it.

Sorry to hear about your gear. Hope those involved get theirs. Id be thrown off the site if i said how i really felt.

That’s a tough break Joe and, like someone else said: it’s a lesson for us all, both in matters of security, and insurance. I sincerely hope things work out well for you. I often wonder how much of this kind of gear ends up at car boot sales. We’ve a very large car boot sale here in Kilkenny every Sunday???
    Go Well.

sorry to hear this but i second the point about the house insurance. A few years ago our car with my gear was stolen from our driveway. I had no dedicated photographic insurance but i gave our house insurers a ring and was delighted to find that they covered what i had lost. It was over £2000 worth of gear. So give yours a call. You have nothing to lose.

Thanks for the comments on house insurance. I had checked my house insurance policy and it appears that should be able to cover some of the camera gear. Will know about the level of cover later this week. I need strength to cope with another week of form-filling, insurance telephone systems and loss adjusters but it hopefully will be worth it in the end.
