Nikon Scanner

    Hi.

Has anybody been able to get a Nikon Coolscan III (LS 30) to work with windows XP? I get it to work ok on an old laptop that has Windows 98 and is powered by a hamster on a treadmill but I have heard rumours that XP has problems with SCSI adaptors. I have an Adaptec USB Xchange to connect from the SCSI port on the back of the scanner to the USB port. I also use Hamrick Vuescan and this works on Win 98 but no way can I get this configuration to work on XP. Am I mising something?

Must admit, it’s been quite a while since I’ve heard mention of SCSI!!!

You might find some information at http://www.scantips.com/scsitip.html. Other than that, check on Microsoft’s site to see if your SCSI HA is supported under Windows XP. They removed support for a lot of HA’s but maybe all you need is an ASPI driver.

    Thanks Thorsten.

I do have ASPI installed but I will have a look at the site you have suggested and see if there is anything there.

I have a scsi card that will work with XP

you should have a look on ebay, you will pic one up for next to nothing

Buy an adaptec one they are the more stable and universal

and stick it in your machine and plug the scanner in

Are you saying that this will more than likely work whereas the adaptec scsi to usb adaptor won’t?

yea them adapter things cause no end of grief

for 30 of 40 quid you will be able to buy a PCI card off ebay

Just go on the adpetec site and check which ones are supported by XP

Most of the adaptec ones are supported in the core of windows, ie no need to even find a driver
