Nikon, Sigma or Tamron?

I just bought a nikon D60.€250 incl shipping on eBay
I’m an avid Canon user. Had loads of Canon gear, soold most of it because they were just gathering dust. I want to get back into photography, but I’ve never used Nikon in my life, so I had a brainstorm… why not get an entry level Nikon, with a decent lens, to get to use Nikon a bit before deciding should i stick with Nikon and sell the rest of my Canon gear or just to buy a Canon EOS DSLR (either 50D or 5D).
I want to buy the Nikon 18 – 200 lens, but it’s fairly expensive for an “experiment”, so I’m wondering if I should rather buy the Sigma 18 – 200 OS or the Tamron 18 – 270 VC Lens?????
I want to experience Nikon… reallly.
Any ideas, advice?
damien.murphyParticipantShutter BugMemberI just bought 2 lower end Nikon lenses. 18 – 55 and 70 – 300. Costs me €180 for both.
Worked out yesterday what the rest of my Canon gear are worth 2nd (what it sells for at the moment). Just over €3000. I could buy some lovely Nikon kit with that, of which the 1st would be the 80 – 400 Lens and the D300 or D90.
I’ve spend allot of time recently looking at Nikon on the www, very impressed. We’ll see what happens.

Honestly… that’s about €179 too much. Both of these lenses are cheap for the very same reason. Optically they’re atrocious. The lens is THE most important part of the system, certainly more important than the body itself.

Well if you’re looking for a hardly used 80-400mm, I’ve had one for sale for quite some time and am open to offers.
Shutter BugMemberI realise it’s cheap lenses, but I didn’t want to pay hundreds of euro’s and I might sell then in 2 or 3 months.
I worked out the remainder of my Canon gear are worth more than €3000, so with that I’ll be able to buy decent Nikon optics, body etc… if I switch. I’ve had people asking why am I doing this. Well, this experiment so far only costs me about €380. I’ve got Canon gear, worth more than that, and I’ve never even used them. And I’ll be able to sell again and get a bit of money back if I decide to stay with Canon.
One thing i’d like to know though, what’s Nikon’s Macro optics like? And the Macro Flash Commander.
PM sent about the 80 -400
