Nikon vs Sigma vs Tamron for 70-300?
-
nolongerParticipant
Does anybody have any recommendations for a 70-300 lens? The Sigma seems to be the most popular (the APO, of course) – they seem to be up to the third model of the 70-300 APO (the DG, which is digital-“enhanced”, whatever that means). Apparently Tamron has a new one coming out at some point, but it’s impossible to find Tamron lenses in Ireland. And since I really like doing macros, I’m guessing the Nikon is out?
Of course, I’m open to other tele-zoom lens recommendations… but since this is my first non-kit lens purchase, I’d prefer to stay in the more budget-conscious range.
Cheers!
RyanMarkKeymasterOf the 70-300 range the Sigma gets top ratings in all the reviews I’ve read
and boy did I read alot before parting with my cash.I don’t use mine alot it must be said. My nature and mushroom macro shots were taken with it.
masteroftherealmParticipantIll be getting the Nikon or Sigma on wednesday I hope so Ill come back with a mini review for ya on one of them lol
MarkKeymasterFYI, Nikon is meant to be the worse of the 3. Suprising from Nikon.
Rumour has it that it was made by Tamron for Nikon and badged for Nikon.ciaranParticipantI have the 70-300mm ED Nikon (the expensive one  ) I’d rate it average to poor. Probably one of my worse purchases.
masteroftherealmParticipantUnfortunatly, Im limited to whichever is the cheapest, Conns have a few 2nd hand Nikon Lenses ATM and I get whichever is the cheapest. Cant afford to be picky when Im this broke ;)

If anyone is selling any lenses ;)ciaranParticipantnolongerParticipantI’m probably going with the Sigma. Conn’s has it on for 200 so I’ll likely be picking it up tomorrow. Maybe I’ll see ya there, MOTR! :) I might take a peak at what they’ve got in the 2nd hand bin as well, or head over to Camera Exchange.
dunnieParticipanti have the tamron 70-300 for my canon 350 and its the lens i use all the time nearly as i
do alot of macro and distance shooting. (still awaiting my new macro that i paid for 3 weeks ago)
but i think in my opinion its the better average as its cheaper than sigma, intro2020 on the net
