This shot, for me, was a lovely surprise. Wonderful detail & tones throughout the entire shot. Also the fact that is not in colour, makes the viewer look more at the scene itself, which in real life, we would probably walk past it without “seeing” it. Wonderful shot Isabella. Well done
aoluainParticipantmy first thought was – contrast –
but its perfect.lovely details, good composition.
its a simple honest remote irish scene – no frills needed!
nice 5×4 isabella
IsabellaParticipantthanks!
aoluain, it was hard to decide about the contrast. i exposed for the sky and water so as not to blow the highlights, but i reckon maybe the tree could do with a little dodge to pull it up a bit?
this is just off a scan of the neg though, i’ll have to contact print and scan again to see the difference.
saberMemberfor me this is a nice irish landscape with good sky i would leave it as is ,regards saber
MartinParticipantAs has been said a lovely picture. Lots of nice detail and tone well done
texMemberIsabella I’m afraid a scan from a neg can only be a very general guide to what you have captured. It is when you attempt to print the neg is when you will find the problem areas in your exposure and then you will have to you exercise your skill in overcoming them. Your sky is fine but I do think that the land area looks a bit flat or lacking in contrast. But you do seem to have detail everywhere which is a good thing. Good luck in your printing session.
IsabellaParticipantthanks all!
tex – Thanks yes, i never consider the scan to be anything but a guide to how the composition came out in reverse. scanners are only forgiving when it comes to massively overexposed shots that would never print in the darkroom. i always find the darkroom results to be much better, maybe because i have far more patience in there than with post processing on a computer but more likely because no matter how great the technology it’ll never be as precise as chemistry. i use the scanner for making lazy contacts to see what i got and treat them as entirely separate entities. i rarely scan prints
