Hi Folks,
I’ve been flicking away with my Nikon Coolpix P&S for a while now and though it is a very nice camera, it’s time I got a bit more serious and get into the world of SLR. After a lot of research it seem I’m on the hunt for a Nikon D80, but that’s a story for another day. I’ve also downloaded GIMP and started reading up on that also and to be fair, I have found the folks on boards.ie to be very helpful but having just discovered this site today I think I know where I’ll be doing my research from now on
I hope to start concentrating on landscape photography (being from West Cork nature should do most of the work for me!) and am especially interested in slow exposures. Hopefully down the line when I win the lotto I’ll be able to get an underwater casing for my camera as I love diving too but I imagine underwater shooting is a different matter altogether?
Anyway, looks like a great site and looking forward to contributing and learning!
Cheers
Rory
ossie13ParticipantWelcome Rory and enjoy the site!
The D80 is a great camera had one before upgrading to the D300
Have a look in the for sale section, one for sale…

shutterbugParticipantroryaherneMemberCheers folks, I saw that alright in the for sale section but won’t be near kildare/dublin until the end of may so will expand my search to there mid-may (going to see roger waters – wohoo!). Was initially gonna buy a new D5000 but due to lack of motor i think it’s false economy and i don’t want/need video so the D90 is a waste of money for me so it’s a matter of biding my time now!
Currently reading through the GIMP manual, fascinating stuff, it’ll keep me well occupied in the meantime and hopefully by the time I get the D80 I’ll be a GIMP master (that’s what she said…).
Cheers again folks – I’ve been looking at a lot of your pics too for ideas on composition, the article on the fibonacci sequence was brilliant and if anyone is really bothered or interested in the fibonacci, youtube ‘Tool Fibonacci’ for a cool video (not photography related though)
