Northern Slovenia

Slovenia just recently completed a term holding the Presidency of the EU – and is very proud of it. I think it’s a wonderful country. Only about the size of Munster but much of it is heaped up like my native West Cork – only higher!! The northern part is in the shadow of the Julian Alps which must be spectacular with their snow cloths on but they are equally beautiful in summer time.
This village is typical of the area. One night, the locals provided free musical entertainment in the square and passed around small glasses of the local poitÃn! Tough tasting n summer – would be great if it were snowing though ;-)
The nearby Lake Bohinj is at the foot of the Alps and is full of the cleanest water imaginable. The countryside around it is equally clean in its peace.
Nature comes out to say a wild hello here at every turn.
Nearby, Lake Bled is a tourist magnet. Easy to see why. The little chapel on the island is a popular wedding venue — when the waters are calm enough to get across in the local gondola-type boats!
Great scenery. Landscape enthusiasts would have a great time here! And the people are truly welcoming and friendly.
Thanks for looking at these.

LoGillParticipanta very nice set
Its been a few years since i’ve been but I recognise the place from your images.. Bled is beautiful in particular (if only you could get rid of the tourists :) )
Of the set I can’t help but prefer your third. the lower perspective of the meadow works for me :)

MartinOCParticipantNice photos Tom,
I like 2, 3 and 4, I can get much of a feel for the town from the angle in number 1.I was there last year, a lovely place indeed. I only went to Bratislava and Bled and then down to Rijeka in Croatia for the ferry. I would like to see more of the place, everyone on the plane seemed to be going up north.

TompixBandonMemberThanks Lorraine and Martin for the comments.
You’re right about the crew around Bled, Lorraine. Such a charming place, though, it’s almost inevitable that it would be busy.

Martin, the northern part of the country are certainly worth as visit. For a small area, there is serious variety there. Something for everyone.Ta.
