    Get a load of Pete the Boat!! He was hundreds of miles away, now he’s likely to cross the equator before most of us. Ain’t he the dark horse!

    He’s in league with the devil: when we were going through the doldrums, there was hardly a draft – now there’s 13 knot winds.

    Gimme a break! I started hundreds of miles behind you lot – I needed a bit
    of luck. I took a gamble on there being wind to the east and it allowed
    me to catch up.

    If Joseph’s big gamble comes off he’ll up there with the leaders. Fortune favours the brave.

    I am at last gaining places, I have been going faster than the wind
    and still losing places…….at one stage I had to get out the oars sweating
    buckets I am. No sleep tonight it will be both hands on deck….mine :)

    HMS Causeway now passing the way marker. Crew witnessed sitting around a cauldron saying:

    Double, double toil and trouble;
    Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

    Fillet of a fenny snake,
    In the cauldron boil and bake;
    Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
    Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
    Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting,
    Lizard’s leg, and howlet’s wing,
    For a charm of powerful trouble,
    Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
