Damn you, and all who sail in you, JB.

    Tee hee-

Cathal, you’re now part of a particularly select bunch of crazies who are sailing 2 round the world races simultaneously-
    I think I’ve been let off the hook now;
you can blame Eat the Gateaux for that one-

Seems the scoring system has improved, and actual positions are now much more accurate-

There is something terribly wrong with this game. I set the direction to 140 degrees, and when I now checked again, it was 230… anyone else experienced strange things around this start?

Yup. Set it at a bearing and getting 8.2knots. Click on refresh and it’s gone to 12knots. And by increasing my speed I’ve lost 25,000 places.

And does anyone know why 451’s ferry is following the wrong path???

“why 451’s ferry is following the wrong path?”

    It’s not wrong, it’s different.
I’m heading over to Boston to get a head start on the race to Galway.

Yes – set up my matster plan to go overland, went out for a while and the game police had taken over and set me out to sea.

Flippin’ ‘eck!! I thought I’d try “trimming” the edge of the headland – working on the guess that the developpers had left in a bit of tolerance. But no. A few hours into the race and I run aground.

    Presently watching everybody sail past.

    Bummer.

Seen the programme on sky sports today on the race
There is a great threat of pirates on the next leg which the race has never been on
They had a meeting with all the crews and told them to carry ciggarettes, water
and money in case they come across the pirates.
I suppose they cant have an armed escort as they are well spaced out but you would
think they could have some sort of protection

Yeah well, when pirates get you all, it’ll give me opportunity to catch you up, I’m already last with a heading somewhere closer back to Argentina than India…..

Gaaarr!! Lost some 17000 or so places overnight!!

This just gets more frustrating as the days go on. On Saturday I went from 35,000-ish to 430th place. Every 10 minutes I was changing course to increase speed. Left it over night and lost 10,000 places. This morning down to 22,000th place. The same bearing could give you two different speeds over the course of a few minutes. Bah.

I see the Alimony & Indominatawhatshisname found a fast path…obviously there’s a team within a team there…and we thought they were taking the wrong course…

    Indeed Alan,

I have come to the conclusion that the skill of this game is the skill of who can sit at their computer the longest.

The small differences in wind angle between squares can result in a huge difference in speed as we cross from one square to the next. If we are not there to recorrect our bearing in every square we are going to suffer. I don’t think I can give my boat that level of nannying.

I’ve decided to set my boat on a bearing of 90 degrees at 11am and
not to touch it for at least 24 hours. My darling beloved has permission
to stick a marlin spike in my self-bailer if she catches me on the site.

    Do we detect a mutiny????

Not a mutiny as such. Just a landlubber being enlisted to administer
    medicine to a homesick tar.

Andy’s right, you either have to micro-manage your yot, or resign
    yourself to mediocrity.

Can anyone explain to me why, despite being in winds 5 knots faster than those Mark T is in, I cannot match his speed with any sail configuration. at any angle to the wind!!?
