Mick451Participantjb7Participant
That’s just about the same number of places I’ve lost-
I knew it’d be bad news, you joining up-I’m in the Doldrums…
Well actually, I’m trying to avoid them, and going a long way out of my way doing so-
You can see the big hole in the Atlantic,
if you scroll (quite a long way) down the page…one to think about now, all you strategists…
j
PeteWMemberHow long after the winner touching the line does the leg continue?
Not sure I’ll have finished by 15th November !!!
Must look into this doldrums business…..
positronMemberSailing as ‘TheHighKings’, aiming for Good Hope I think – winds are dull around where I am, but still moving at around 25kmph, is that good? and.. what now?
randomwayMemberjb7ParticipantWell, all might not be as it seems-
I’m heading right into the Doldrums,
and I might just come to a dead stop soon-The boat that led all the way down was becalmed in there-
I started 450 miles behind him, he’s 37 miles in front of me now, in 270th place-
he lost the lead yesterday-The western route seems to be the one to go for-
The ranking system doesn’t seem to be very sophisticated-
I’m headed south, so I’m making up places-
If I gybe now, I’d lose them all just as quickly-Looks like you’re all having a bit of a race yourselves-
all tightly bunched…Mick451Participant“all tightly bunched…”
Like a pair of plums that have been spandexed…man, it’s not easy trailing behind Andy.
PeteWMemberFor some reason my crew decided to put their feet up and take the night off last night losing about 3000 places have amassed a staggering 0.8km’h …..
It seems beatings will continue until crew morale improves….
cathaldParticipantThere was a programe on tg4 the other morning showing the build up and start of the race
the money involved is crazy to design build and race in this eventCathal
andy mcinroyParticipantPeteW,
I noticed that odd behaviour last night as you were hot on my heels.
I shouted over but your crew were all taking a nap.
Mick, take a good look at those plums, thats thats going to be the last you see of them.
andy mcinroyParticipantOn another note,
JB, how are you managing to maintain 30km/h speed in a 2km/h wind in the middle of the doldrums?
Have you got a diesel motor smuggled on board?
Edit. Oops just noticed that 2km/h is a future forcast where you are headed. Good luck !!!!
jb7ParticipantI think you might be looking at the 36hr forecast Andy-
at the moment I’m running a light spinnaker in 9.2kts of wind,
though it is veering and dropping-
I think I might have timed it ok though-The current leader is 279 miles ahead-
he made up all his ground by sailing around that big hole in the wind they call the doldrums-
though he might have gone a bit far; I’d hope to make up some time before the mark-I’ll have to change sail soon, and do a bit of reaching, , then a bit of beating-
So the message is, for all you strategists out there,
forget about your plums,
and worry about your hole instead-j
Well, I spoke too soon-
down to 5½ kts now-
could be stuck in here for a coupla days…cathaldParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantBMParticipantcathald wrote:
Sarahmary just added me as a friend…is it any of the PI members?
Maybe it’s Sister Sarah Mary from the Sisters of Perpetual PMT – to show you the quickest route to the doldrums.
