offcamera flash

Hi whats the cheapest means of getting off camera flash? I have a canon 40D and a speedlight 580. I got offered a hama flash cable from a friend who never used it, does it work does anyone know? I cant afford a canon flash transmitter right now so alternative solutions would be appreciated.
climberhuntParticipantCheapest option is a compatible cable (PC connectors on each end, as long as the 40D has that). Nothing to do with computers, PC is Proctor/Compur or something like that.
I’d personally recommend the Cactus V4 triggers, you can pick up a transmitter/receiver pair for about EU30 plus shipping. See http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/product.php?productid=17204&cat=0&page=1″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; for more info.
Rgds,
Dave.MaccaParticipantI had a set of Cactus V4 triggers and found them very unreliable with a lot of mis-fires and random triggering on all the available channels, although I do know other people who’ve had no problems with them.
I’ve since picked up a set of RF-602’s from e-bay shop http://stores.ebay.com/hkyongnuophotoequipment and found them perfect. I also like the smaller form factor and the fact that they can also be used as a wireless cable release instead of a flash trigger.

climberhuntParticipantOoh, forgot about the RF-602’s. I’d probably go for those if I didnt already have 5 Cactus V4 receivers… :)
brendancullenParticipantHi Emma,
I just took delivery of a Yongnuo CTR -301P Wireless Flass Trigger for US $16 delivered from eBay
It works great with my 450D and 430EX II Speedlite.
You can put your flash on a regular tripod and place it away from the camera up to i’d guess 10 metres or more.
If you get a wireless one – just make sure that you adjust the Flash not to power down when not in use. By default they go to sleep after a few minutes. You do this by attaching the flash to the camera and adjust the Custom settings for the flash. Its annoying to have everything set to shoot – then the flash won’t fire. TURN off the wireless when not in use as the CR2 battery is expensive. Approx €8

Bren do i need to buy a reciever seperatly with that one? Does it double as a remote shutter release?
Paul that link brings me to a page full of different ones!! Can you narrow it down, (non of them are called RF602’s)
thanks again,
oh both guys how long was delivery time?brendancullenParticipantHi Emma. It won’t act as a shutter release. You’ll have to get a seperate device for that – whether cable or wireless. I got this one.
The wireless remote link is a complete set.
delivery approx 7 working days if from China – 5 if from UK.
ciao

Try this link for the Canon ones: http://stores.ebay.com/hkyongnuophotoequipment_Trigger-Receiver_W0QQ_fsubZ465333016QQ_sidZ720284096?_nkw=rf-602+canon&submit=Search
Mine took two weeks to arrive, although given that I ordered them over the Christmas hols, that’s probably not representative :)
Paul.
