Office wallflower

This plant, whatever it is, is growing rampant out of the wall of the carpark outside my office. A nice splash of colour on sunny days like these. :)

First off.. welcome to the forum :D

If I can, may I make two suggestions to you which are non photo related (as such)?

The first is to change your image hosting service. There is a good thread already on the forum which discusses various hosting sites which allow hot linking of images for free. The thread can be found here: https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?p=1508&highlight=pbase#1508 The reason that I suggest this is that for your current solution, people have to click on the image before being able to see a larger resolution version. Certainly, as is the case myself, I’m far more inclined to comment on a shot if firstly I don’t have to click on a thumbnail or link to see the image and secondly that the resolution is small enough to fit on a page without scrolling.

My second suggestion is that you drip feed your image posts. It’s unlikely people will comment on all your images if you post too many in one day. It’s even less likely that you’ll get honest critique and crticism as the effort involved in providing some can be quite significant, so you’ll end up the “nice shot” comments at best. Rather than posting too many in one day, consider spacing them out over a week or even month. I guess it all depends on how many shots you have stored away or how prodigious a shooter you are – but at this rate you’ll run out of shots very quickly.

As for this shot.. I’m afraid I didn’t follow the link so I can’t comment in detail.

    Again.. welcome to the forum.

I dont have an issue following links but that picture is massive (2400×1800)- I think if you scale it down a bit it would make it easier to see. From the thumbnail though it does look good.

Thanks for the advice folks. I’ll find an image hosting service, scale down my images, and show a little restraint in posting in future. Call it the overenthusiasm of the complete beginner.

Nothing wrong with enthusiasm. When I first joined a photo forum I was posting more than the GPO :) A lot of my shots didn’t even get a comment! From looking at other members shots I got a feel for whats worth posting and whats not,and I learned…..I’m still learning…always.
When I look back at the shots I thought were great at the time, they seem very ordinary indeed. Now I can see the difference in my shots and that proves I’m learning something  I’m no professional(far from it)but my advice would be to take shots anytime you can, everywhere you can…break all the rules, swear at your camera…and enjoy it

    Is this better?

Na I prefer the monsters sized one (joking !) – yep this one is a lot easier to see properly. I like the detail and the crop and the colours – the grey dull looking bokeh brings out the brightness & colour of the flower making it look more interesting. Good picture – cant really think of any specific areas to improve it, maybe a frame – also a minor distraction is the dead looking flower petals/buds in the lower part of the frame but this is hardly noticable.
