My Nikons are quite dated F 401 and EM and I was wondering if the lenses have any value to go towards a new digital slr.
    Nikon 50mm series E
    Nikon 35-70 1:3.3-4.5
    Nikon28mm f/2.8 Series E
    Sun zoom 35-200 with macro. dc-1 1:3.8-5.3 Macro #67 3225561
    Thanks

    Hi,

You don’t say exactly what type of lenses they are for example, are they the “G Series” or “AIS” versions etc. Will be written inside the filter screw threads beside the front lens element

It depends on what Nikon body you plan to get. Nikon is normally very good for backward compatibility. If you get the right body it more than likely will work with these lenses. You might not have auto focus and the metering and auto modes might be limited though but you can use them….

Don’t know what “Sun zoom 35-200 with macro. “ is so not sure about this one. If it has a nikon mount though it should work like the others…

    When you say

I was wondering if the lenses have any value to go towards a new digital slr.

are you hoping to use the lenses with a digital camera, or to trade in the lenses against an SLR?

I have a couple of old manual Nikon lenses that work with my D40. focus and metering may have to be done manually depending on the lenses.

In the vain of buy from an Irish supplier you should bring the lenses into your local shop and see if they can advise you as to whether or not they will work on your chosen body. They might even let you try them on a camera. Consider the help they have given you and the further advice they may give you if you buy from them. This could be camera advice, trade-in later on, advice on camera clubs, warranty and service and even constructive critisim on your prints etc.

However, thread carefullly if you plan to buy on the www as nothing but nothing gets a shop keepers back up more than a “thanks for all that help I’ll going to check the web and I’ll get back to you”.

    Good luck

You might get around 30 euro each for them but cant say for sure, not worth a whole lot though, e series were the kit lenses of their time…. You could bring them into http://www.berminghamcameras.ie or into http://www.connscameras.ie both camera shops based in Dublin they take in 2nd hand gear as a trade in for new gear, both have prices on their web sites for new cameras

I’ve got one of those nikon zooms, i never use it anymore on my d200, but i have a 50 1.8e and a 28mm 3.5 and use them quite often on it. They should work fine on a d200/d300
and with little or no modification they could work on other nikon dslrs. Of course you would loose metering, but for slow paced shooting like landscape/stilllife this is no biggie.

In these cases i prefer to focus manually anyhow, and manual focussing on a 50 1.8e is much nicer than on nikons newer prosumer zooms, unless you’ve got a good budget I’d say hang on to the primes. John
