Old Photo Restoration

Hi, just bouncing this one of you for your comments and opinions. I do a bit of photoshop and have repaired and restored the odd old photograph for people from time to time (and they were happy). I was always thinking of taking it a little further, starting off small just to generate extra cash and see what happens from there. I’m in Donegal and was wondering is it a viable idea to take forward or are there too many people out there with photoshop that can and would be doing it themselves. Welocme all comments.

    thanks
    Damian

    Damian,
If you can get some extra cash, then sure, go ahead.
As to whether it would be a viable business, probably not. There are 1000’s of people out there with photoshop, and 1000’s more “with access to photoshop”, that can manipulate photos, restore etc. One suggestion would be avoid proposing money-earning ideas on photography forum’s, as that will encourage people to go out and do the same as you. :)
My main suggestion would be to go ahead and do it, tell as many prospective customers as possible, and see how you get on. Make a name for yourself. If you’re inundated with offers, fantastic. If not, at least you tried.
    Dave.

Not trying to put you off the idea – but just be aware that you will also be competing with lots of places which outsource this to India and other countries, where skills are high and labour costs low.

    e.g. Google photo restoration India
