Thanks Ciaran for your input. I have to disagree with you on the appeal, however, the content may not appeal to you but it does to me. I would not bother to take the shots and to post them here if I did not like them.

Isn’t that the wonderful thing about photography? :)

I am sure that the snaps can be improved and as always I am happy to consider constructive criticism where it is offered.

Now now, I didn’t mention snaps, so let’s not go getting into a strop  As much as people can simply say they like a shot, surely people can also say they don’t? Or will I just post “wonderful shot Dave :)” to every post you put up?

I don’t think it needs to be locked, because I’m sure everyone involved understands that this difference of opinion should now be continued in private (if at all!). If any new posts in this thread could be in relation to the photo itself, that would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Steve

In accordance with Ming’s wishes on another thread I will not be responding to this post either. If there is a recurrence of abusive posts I will refer them to the moderators for necessary action.

To continue on the topic of historic streetscapes of Dublin.

This shot shows the front doorway of Kilmainham Gaol. The balcony above the doorway was part of the gallows. This was last used for a public hanging in 1865 when the miscreant was launched into eternity when the trap opened. After this date executions were carried out in the prison yard. One of the most famous hangmen who plied his trade here was William Marwood http://www.richard.clark32.btinternet.co.uk/hangmen.html
Mr Marwood was best known for his introduction of the long drop.

“Marwood travelled to Ireland from time to time and had the job of executing Joe Brady and 4 other members of the “Invincibles” gang for the murders in Phoenix Park Dublin of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Thomas Harry Burke the Permanent Under Secretary for Ireland. These hangings took place on the 14th of May 1883 at Kilmainham jail in Dublin.”

Executions by hanging were moved to Mountjoy Prison in 1901.

When it was first built in 1796, Kilmainham Gaol was called the ‘New Gaol’ to distinguish it from the old jail it was intended to replace – a noisome dungeon, just a few hundred metres from the present site. Over the 140 years it served as a prison, its cells held many of the most famous people involved in the campaign for Irish independence. The leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were held and executed here, and the last prisoner held in the jail was Eamon de Valera.

This street scene is at the rear of the Richmond Courthouse. It forms part of a site that it is hoped will become the campus of the Dublin Institute of Technology. The site used house the Richmond Penitentery.

Dave, please put a lid on this. Ciaran posted Wednesday morning and you decide now to reply. :?:
Ciaran’s post is not at all abusive at all and I suggest that you work out this “lack of understanding” between the both of you via PM
    and not in public.

I have sent you a PM on this matter. I quoted a post but did not reply to it. I may be considered pedantic but I have to have a right of reply and I do not like being bullied.
As I have already said I am happy to let matters lie as they are at the moment.

This is no so old but I could claim that the reflection shows early 20th century buildings. It is the Spike in O’Connell Street taken with my trusty p&s.

Another street shot from the p&s days. I think the traders were on the run from the rozzers (members of an Garda S?ochana).
