Old warehouse/ disused building – Location advice needed

    Hi everyone,

I have a shoot planned and am trying to find the holy grail….
I am looking for an old disused warehouses/buildings with character that are safe for photographer and models.
Will be using Motorbikes and generator powered studio lights so idealy I need the comfort of being able to set up for a few hours without geting mugged/killed or attracting a crowd. Has anyone any suggestions on moody locations from their own previous shoots, or indeed does anyone have access to such a location through work/personal contact that I might be able to use.

    Thanks for any suggestions folks,
    Alan

I dont have access to these, but they area a bit out of the way, yet central.
The old printers in Phibsboro (Dublin 9 – I think), between the Sunny bank Hotel and Dalymount, was knocked down about a year ago and they’re still clearing it out. There’s lots still of rubble and an old, totally barren building there too – broken windows, wall stains, mould; the full shebang. There’s a small bomb-shelter looking, corrigated iron shack there too. It’s an uneven ground and after it’s rained the water pools in nearly pattern-like areas, too!

I’d imagine you’d need permission, as it’s private ground, but nothing been done there in MONTHS, and there doesn’t seem to be any plans for the enar future either! The contracter and that’s on a sign, but I can’t remember that offhand at the moment! If Im up that way again, I’ll try take it down for you. It’s also near the Grand/Royal canal, with the swans and that and the Dalymount staff are nice and I’d image they have no objects to photo ops there The stands there are older then myself and have a nice texture and design too, so you have a few extra options in that area.

That’s all I have for you, I’ll keep me eyes open, as I said.
Hope that was of any help.

Aren’t there rules against taking down contractors signs

Anyway, sounds like an interesting location. I’m keeping my eyes open for derelict buildings around my area too, as I have a few ideas for shoots in derelict sites, but so far all I’ve come up with are ruins, and that’s a stage well beyond dereliction, which I’m not really interested in at this stage.

Meant to get back to you sooner.
Anyway, there’s no name up at the moment, so perhaps it’s a council job?
    Hope you’re getting on well!

Been looking for stuff like that myself. Photographers tend to keep these locations secret. There was a rumour about Dundalk camera club having a secret “ghost town” in Cavan somewhere. Turns out some of the members each have a couple of places they frquent but they won’t even share the locations with each other. Best bet is to just drive around the little lanes in backwaters of the countryside.

Monasterevin in Kildare has tonnes of suitable warehouses and abandoned large houses. I asked around for owner information but no one has a clue. Lovely big stone walled warehouses going to waste and can’t shoot in them. Grrr.

Yea, shame really – still on the look out – best bring a set of bolt cutters just in case:-)
