I was out in Howth this evening and couldn’t get over the sheer number of people out fishing. Anyway, while I was there, one of the youngsters caught a fairly decent looking fish and his friend came over either to look at it or help him finish it off (I don’t fish myself, so I don’t know what you do – keep them or throw them back in or what). I discovered I’m quite squeamish on the fish+hook+struggling to escape front. But I still kept clicking.
The photograph was originally taken in colour with a 350D off a zoom lense. I process my photographs using the GIMP for a variety of reasons the main one being I seem to do better with it than I did with either Photoshop CS2 or Photoshop Elements. Must be a mentality thing.
I upped the contrast a bit, adjusted the curves and levels – I suspect that with more experience I might only ever need to use one of these tools, and then I desaturated it to make it a black and white image. I don’t have a tendency to frame things (usually because I think in-photo frames are a bit wrong when you go printing them, but I like this. And yes, I cropped it a bit as well.
