I took these two weeks ago at home in Roscommon. We tend to get some nice sunsets up the field behind the house…and the cows are only happy to pose for a few snaps.
Hi Niall,
I’d suggest framing these differently next time to bring out the scene. The horizon is too central in all three and “splits” the shots in two more-or-less even parts. I’d leave out more of the grass and accentuate the sky more.
As an example, the top section of photo 1 makes a nice shot if you crop it to a square shape, i.e. cut it below the horizon the same length as the width of the photo. (I did it by just scrolling up and down  )
While the cow might not like it, i’d be inclined to light her with a bit of flash in #2.
Best wishes.
I agree with Tom here especially regarding shot #2. I think this is excellent but the cow is a little dark. I suppose going back and asking the cow to remodel is out of the question!
Thanks lads, i do seem to have a tendancy to put the horizon in the center of shots….i wouldn’t be a fan of rules at the best of times. I probably could get the cow to pose for me again quite easily….but i’ll be a while waiting for that light again. it was a bit difficult exposing her face and keeping the sky detail…maybe a flash is the way to go.
