I’ve just emailed Heather K McFarland to see if she is Robert55.

    I’ll keep you all posted.

I just got a reply from Heather.

Needless to say she is very shocked. I believe she may post here shortly.

I’ll not post her reply here before I clear it with her.

The image in question is indeed mine…..Heather McFarland. Here is a link to it on my website = http://www.hkmphotos.com/DesktopModules/ImageDisplay.aspx?iImageId=580

This image has won several online competitions in the past. So no…I am not using another name to submit here. Mr Robert55 is a fraud and has stolen my work. Isn’t the first time it’s happend and I’m sure it won’t be the last. It’s sad that some people feel the need to steal other peoples hard earned work and submit it as their own.

I want to thank all of the folks here who “recognized” my image and asked Robert to explain himself. Also to Andy who sent me an e-mail to alert me that this was happening. Only by us HONEST photographers sticking together and watching out for each other like this can we try to combat this internet stealing!!

    Thank you all so much!!

To Robert55….what a classless jerk. How much real satisfaction can you get from stealing other photographers work. Are you that desperate for attention?

    Hi Heather,
    welcome to PI,
    must say, very classy image-

    I didn’t comment originally,
I don’t know what stayed my hand-

    Now that you’re here,
look forward to seeing a few more-

Hmm..makes ya wonder about all the other images so.

We could start a “find the real owner” thread?

Beautiful shot Heather btw….would you consider hanging around and posting some more at all? :)

    Hi All,

I have watched this thread develop with intrigue over the last few days and thought it time to chip in.

Firstly credit to Heather K McFarland for a great shot and the Irishwonkafan for spotting this.

My other thought on this are what’s the legal standing on copyright on this for the site owner – I assume you will already have checked this Mark?

Also are people keeping an eye out on other forums for images originally posted on here?… I am assuming now the chances some of the best images from PI appearing under another name elsewhere have now increased.

Also would this episode make you hold back from posting your best images in future?

Well my quick reaction to those questions are,

    1. Be extremely difficult for Mark or any site administrator to stop something like this happening. There are literally millions of images online at any one time and it was only pure chance that this one was discovered. The fact that it was such a unique shot probably helped too.

2.It would not stop me posting anyway. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. People will be people and there will always be someone craving attention out there on the net. At the end of the day, he/she did not profit from this financially and I would assume that Heather has protected her images from print by uploading smaller jpegs or suchlike. Unless you’re going to put big ugly watermarks across your shot there’s not a lot you can do to stop this kind of thing. To be honest..if I had an image that was good enough for someone to want to bother stealing it in the first place I’d be happy..

It’s hard to see what this person got from the whole thing apart from some obviously needed attention. Any praise or positive comments that came his/her way from this post where, in the end, praise for Heather and not the person who posted it.

Anyway, that’s just my take on the whole sorry episode. I’m sure it’s happening all over the WWW …and like Heather said, it’s not the first time it’s even happened to her.

Thanks for all your support folks! Unfortunately any time we post an image on the web it’s there for the taking by less than honest people. It’s the price we pay for trying to get our work out there and get noticed!!

Thanks again to Irishwonakfan for spotting this and Andy for letting me know!

And to Swordie. Nothing strange or false here. Just a straight capture with a tone curve adjustment done in post processing!

Sounds like a great site with many great folks here. I think I will submit some of my work here soon!

That’s great Heather…so in the end Mr. Robert may have done us all a favour here… :D :D
