Outlet ?????

This has been a question that has bothered me for a while now. A number of years ago when i started to take my photography a little more seriously, I started photographing “models” I put a lot of time and effort into this venture and opened my private studio to work from. As my confidence grew and my images became more professional I thought to myself, now where can I get paid for these types of images? No matter who I asked or where i looked I came up blank. So what I am asking is does anyone know of any outlet for these types of photographs, I know there are a lot of photographers on this forum that shoot nothing else only models so , do you have an outlet for these photo’s or do you just soak the costs up yourselves?

It’s a hobby for me I’m afraid, studio and all! :D

It all depends on the type of image! Portrait type images such as the fab shots of Suzanne posted by ellude elsewhere on this site have virtually no use except for the models portfolio. It’s possible to generate a revenue stream from such work by providing a portfolio service if your work is good enough – otherwise you’re the one that’s paying the model for the privilege of shooting her instead of her buying your service as a photographer for her portfolio. So you can rule this one out.

Classic figure nudes will always sell as well. But only if your work is exceptional. There are so many “ordinary” nudes being produced on a daily basis that to really make it here you’ve got to have an excellent eye for composition and lighting, not to mention being commercially astute.

By far the best option for making some money is stock lifestyle photography. You’ve got to be taking shots that are as good as or better than work being produced by the likes of Chris Rout and it’s got to be generic enough to be placed in a stock library.

To be honest, it’s not something I consider making money on (not in the sort term at least). I will continue doing it for the sheer enjoyment of doing it and it’s also an excellent way to experiment with new techniques and ideas without having the pressure of needing to produce “the shot”.
