Mega photoshopped, sorry photo’s done mostly for just use as avatars etc.
jessthespringerParticipantI think there is good potential here…
I’m assuming these are your friends and you can go back and reshoot?
Great subject, I’m always really impressed by the strength these guys have. I’d suggest you have a look at some of the free running pictures on the web, have a look at the angles and the framing, and think about where the photographer has taken the picture from.
I like the last picture, I’d have been wanting to shoot from the top of that wall though, or maybe even from the bottom of it. I think this would make for a much more dramatic, exciting picture… The move you have caught is impressive, but maybe a little hard to engage with, as the face is almost completely hidden.
This kind of shoot just takes a little planning, I did a portrait series last year based around indoor climbing I remember finding it tough at the beginning but once I planned where I was going to shoot from, things got a lot easier.Overall, I’d say good first effort, nice to see something a little bit different in the sports section. It would be nice to see you develop this a little further.
Sinead.
TebbiMemberThe aren’t just my mates, these are my training buddies. :P
I do parkour myself. So technically i could have gotten up to the top of the wall.
I’ll keep going, and hopefully get some hints off the photographers that ask us to work with them.
Thank you so much for your critique.
I hope to get some better angles next time.GfoxParticipantLike the third shot but they seem slightly bright or soft to me… It could be my monitor..
Third is definity the pick.. How about shooting from the top of the wall down? Could work.. Is this up by St Johns Castle?
CooksterParticipantGet back into photoshop and pull the level back to reduce the effect of the white haze. The third shot is impressive, take a look at Cirque du Soleil and acrobat shots as well. The guy in the second shot coulda probably done that with 1 arm elevated and legs extended for a more exciting composition. The choice of shooting position will definitely add to the compositions. The second shot taken from the front of the cannon barrel looking up at the guys face might work
I like the newsprint process on the first, it has a slightly illegal feel to it?? It is cropped a bit tight to get a good feel for the move he’s doing. And as with all action shots and X-sports (some) people wanna see the guy get hurt so conveying the element of risk is one of the keys to a good shot.Looking forward to seeing where you go from here

He could have, but you have to take these guys safety into consideration. They know what they’re doing and the more limbs he has on the object he’s vaulting the safer it is for him and the more comfortable i feel photographing it.
Legs are normally extended more in that movement but he’s just coming into a landing, faster on the button next time i suppose.
Thank you all for your comments.
Much appreciated and all taken on board.
