Passport Photos?
-
ExpresbroParticipant
I have to get some headshots done for myself and my daughter as my passport will be out of date this summer and she needs to get her own now. I was just wondering would it be better to go to the local chemist and get them to do it, or should I chance doing them myself, seeing as how I have this expensive camera sitting there
Has anybody here done their own, or is it more hassle than it’s worth?
Just curious as the man said… :D
ThorstenMemberI’ve done my own in the past and they were fine – but be advised that passport photo requirements recently became very stringent and exact – have a look at the Passport Requirements thread.
ExpresbroParticipantThat’s what I was thinking myself Thorsten. Might just be too much bother for the sake of ?16. Still, would be nice to know I took my own… :D
I’ll check out that link..thanks.
ExpresbroParticipantJaysus,
Just read that thread!! Forget it!! I’ll just go to the local chemist. She has all the gear there and knows the specs…wont be my worry then.
By the sounds of that, you’d be taking a chance going to a photo booth these days.
joe_elwayParticipantI got mine done at Tescos in a booth a few months back and I was worried when I sent them in. Slight glare on the noggin :-) and not great colour. The guidelines are _very_ fussy. Luckily, I got it back a few months back … and I’m finally rid of the “Aido the gangsta” passport .. man the old photo was someting else. How I was allowed in anywhere I’ll never know.
ExpresbroParticipantMan..I’m with ya on that one Aiden. My passport pic has me sporting a Magnum P.I. moustache. Is very embarrassing really…!!
Be nice to see the back of it. Mind you…I look a hell of a lot slimmer in it…ah well..can’t have everything…
peter1892MemberpositronMemberI did own passport sized photos (there’s a free little utility that you can download off the web, which will size and shape it to the exact / latest standards – and arrange 6 of them in a 6×4 print – I will post it here if I can locate it. There are some websites that does the same stuff).
I personally totally hates the dark, dirty smudged looking photos that comes out of the little photo kiosks – the chemists seems to do slightly better though…
PixelleMemberI renewed my passport 4/5 years ago. The photograph from the chemist’s was so vile that I went home and took and printed my own. :D
Couldn’t have faced that terrible picture for 10 years.Ah vanity, vanity, all is vanity!
pete4130MemberPersonally I love really bad pictures in drivers licence and passports. My drivers licence looks NOTHING like me which is why i used it. I look like a mafia gangster with gout. The girl in the chemist was using a digital passport camera where she looks down onto the LCD screen at what should have been at waist level with me sitting down. She made me stand, still held it at waist level, pointed it up (converging my verticals!) and forcing me to look down at the camera. The look on her face when she saw how the picture looked and her reaction when I said it was perfect was brilliant!
I look so far removed from this photo that when I’ve produced it as ID I was refused because people didn’t believe it was me.
See for yourself.
Is this going to start a “Worst ever passport photo thread”?On another note, this could be urban myth. The story of the guy who shot, developed and processed his own passport photos but never fixed them properly in the darkroom….so when he produced his passport at the airport there wasa black square where his photo should have been……

Would you buy a slightly used shotgun from this man?

ExpresbroParticipantThey are still using those machines Pete. Got mine taken with one tonight. Was a Polaroid. She did shoot from waist level first, but the photo was terrible, as it would be. So when she took it again, it was from head height and much improved from my point of view. Still looks like a police mugshot though.
Not complaining though, at last I get to lose the Magnum P.I pic…. :D
