The Turner Family-
At Myrtos, Cefalonia.
If you want to know where that is, try this link, and download the placemark, though you’ll need Google Earth (free ) first.http://www.googleearthhacks.com/downloads/filedownload.php?file=18414
Any and all comments welcome-
SteveDParticipantLooks great jb. I like the positioning of the people, and the light is just beautiful. The colour in those stones really helps the image, I just can’t imagine it would look as good on an Irish beach covered in grey pebbles!!
I would love to have seen some water flying out of that bucket, but that isn’t really something you can control. Have you considered a tighter crop?
ciaranParticipantDoesn’t look like this one was shot with a long lens ;)
Lovely feel to the photo. I’ve said time and time again that shots of peoples backs rarely work, but this is one of the rare exceptions where it does. The colours are great, positioning of people in the frame is spot on and unlike Steve’s suggestion, I’d be inclined to keep this one wider like you have it. Very nice shot.
jb7ParticipantThanks for the comments, both of you, I think this one probably does transcend the holiday snap, in a way.
The beach makes it, as you say, I believe it was used as a location in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, though that movie has always escaped me-
Lovely Island-j
Steve, I probably would leave them a little space, I like the texture of the limestone pebbles, for one thing-
RobMemberDefintely keep it wide. I think while the crop would also work in its own way, the extra space shows off the simplicity and uncluttered nature of the composition to best effect. The colours are wonderfully warm, rich and vibrant. There is a bouy or disembodied head out there in the water you could afford to lose, and a small fraction of headland jutting into the frame from the left side that you could clone out rather than crop. All in all, I love this image. Location is fantastic. Not very often you see a sunny beach so devoid of people, pedaloes and prats trying to play beach volleyball.
Rob.
jb7ParticipantThanks Rob, I probably will do a re-edit to accommodate your suggestions, and also straighten that horizon, which all of you were too polite to mention, given that its comitting one of my own Cardinal Sins- it was about 19mm equivalent, but even that shouldn’t pick up the curvature of the earth-

AnonymousParticipantThis image make me want to pack my bags and chill mmm, reminds me of the Whitsundays in Oz,near white sand and the most stunning blue sky you ever seen. I would leave as original JB,love the way the kid has tossed the bucket, could see this on a travel brochure. Was this shot on film?
Benjb7ParticipantThanks Ben, no, not film, shot on a Nikon E5000 with a wide lens, and the worst shutter lag in history- taking a picture was like sending a request to the camera, then waiting for it to come back from lunch- the only way to avoid this was to use the Auto program, though I can’t actually remember if I was using it for this shot, must check-
Any travel agents wanting to use this can contact me first, I’m sure I’d be cheaper than Getty :DJack_RyanParticipantJay KingParticipantWhat I love most about this is the way all the child’s toys are gathered in one area and each have their own unique colour and look. As well as the way all the pebbles are pointing toward the water (From the sea pulling them in that direction Id say…).
There is a slight black mark in the sea above the woman’s head… and also some island(?) sneaking into view just on the very left of the horizon. Considered a quick clone to remove?
LoGillParticipantI love this.. the exposure, colours and textures look perfect… and for me the icing ont he cake is the triangular composition of the people ……. “sweet” :D
Very nice JB

jb7ParticipantThanks again everybody, I’ll be doing another edit based on your comments-
much appreciated-j
ValentiaMemberstasberMemberWow, gorgeous pic – “all of the above”! Definitely a brochure pic.
The colours are rich & clean, framing & postioning of people is brilliant, and taken at a good moment, with the kid throwing the bucket – which for me completes it. A bucket doesn’t have to have water in it (hehe), so this shot works just as it is for me. I’m a fan of tight cropping & filling the frame (maybe too much sometimes – gotta watch it!) but as also mentioned it has a nice sense of space so I’d be happy to leave it be, though I’d say that both your original as well as Steve’s suggested crop would work well on their own. The tiny clone points made would enhance it further and as for the horizon, well I’ve not got my ruler out but it lines up with the top of my browser screen, though there is some slight curvature which I wouldn’t be inclined to fix as it ain’t really broke.. Can’t wait to see it on my screen at home (calibrated).
Jeez, I should stop looking at that picture as I wanna go on holiday NOW!
