Surely it’s a bit of a luxury these days buying cameras that need modern lenses now that Pentax has brought out the K10D (see amcinroy’s thread elsewhere)? I’d suggest bunging all that heavy glass and those clunky bodies onto ebay and spending the proceeds on Pentax’s new IS, 22-bit, weather-sealed 10Megapixel beauty. With the left-over dough you can get the 40mm pancake lens and the compact 70mm lens and if you can’t afford the 14mm and 21mm wide angles, you can pick up one of a huge range of compatible Pentax lenses from Ebay at very reasonable prices.

I suppose my main point is that pentax’s backwards compatibility (and sideways compatibility if you use adapters for 645 lenses etc) means that you can get an amazing camera body and stick on a 15 year old proven lens of incredible sharpness and end up with a reasonably priced modern super-camera.

I just purchased a Pentax autofocus 50mm from Ebay for less than ?100. Try getting a lens with a similar Photodo rating for any other digital SLR – and include IS – and you won’t get far with a hundred smackeroos.
