JMac-2006Participant
Hi all,
Is anybody exhibiting in this years People’s Photography exhibition at Stephens Green. I’ve thought about doing it for a number of years and this year threw caution to the wind and said go for it. Have paid the fee, and started to pick out some prints that i think are worthy of showing. Though i’m not really sure what to do next and how many prints will fit, how to hang, etc etc..
Would love to hear from anyone who’ll be there, and any advice. Hopefully get to say hello during the two days.
emjayParticipantBest wishes with the exhibition.
I have never even attended, never mind exhibited but this year I hope to at least attend and check it out.
I will keep a look out for your exhibition.JMac-2006ParticipantEddieParticipantHave been exhibiting for years, used to organise it at one time, a great event especially when the sun shines.
Space allocated is about 8ft wide by 6ft high. This will allow approx 20 prints approx 16*12 in inches mounted, more if unmounted depending on size . Some photographers frame their prints this can be expensive and you also have the issue of storing them afterwards. They are also more tricky to hang and you have to make sure they are secure, safety issue, strong cable ties are useful.
I dont frame mine but seal them is sellophane which protects them from wind and dust and even rain, this is the clear stuff the flower sellers use, comes in a roll for about €20. I buy it at TIP TOP 49 East Arran st, near the fruit market and beside the Luas tracks. I then mount them with Blue Tac to the railings (the blue stuff only the white version is rubbish) two pieces on the top and two on the bottom. Holds well even in windy weather.
I am always asked about selling prints, I always consider it an exhibition and enjoy it as such, if someone likes something you have and buys it then its a bonus but remember there will be approx 200 photographers there so dont expect to make your first million. If you do like to sell or do commissions do bring some cards or postcards someone might like something and come back to you later. This has worked for photographers in the past
If on the day you want to drop by before you set up I will show you how to set up. I will be with a group from Clondalkin we are generally near the Dawson st end. :D I will try find a picture of a previous exhibit. Here it is 2009, hopefully I wont have the same prints this year, you can see the sheen from sellophane. They are approx 16inches square.
JMac-2006ParticipantThanks Eddie, really appreciate the advice and tips, and for posting the picture to give me idea of size. Had not realized you could use blutac. As for the selling it would be nice, though the main draw for me was to get involved in a great event and hopefully we’ll have two dry days. As I’m new I expect I’ll be on the quiet side of the square.
