Photo printing in Dublin

SANCHOMember
I’ve an interview with Inpho on Monday about a possible work placement and I need to bring prints. Last place I tried, Harvey Normans cut the top of my image and ruined it basically. None of the images I have are as they were, they’ve all been cropped a little bit, what’s the best way to lay them out so they’ll be printed properly? Put them into an A4 document and resize the image to fit?
Also anybody recommend anywhere to get prints done? properly? :)
stcstcMemberIf you want some stuff done give me a shout
i can do large and small ones
if you need somewhere in town and get the best prints possible go talk to inpirational arts
paulParticipantBest advice – have the file in the format that you want it printed. ie – ensure the file is in the dimensions of 4:5 if you want 8×10 prints or 4:3 for 8×12 prints etc.
ExpresbroParticipantYep, just use the crop tool in Photoshop if you have it and make sure you restrict the crop to whatever size you are printing, ie 10×8, 12×8 whatever. That’s what I do and I’ve never had a problem with Haaaarvey Normans. Apart from the fact they are robbing so and so’s…hehehe!!
MartinParticipantThe pro labs i have used in town are http://www.repro35.ie on Merrion square and http://www.photolabs.ie on Lennox street. Steve (stcstc) above might be a good option also, people on here seem very happy with the results

petercoxMemberInspirational Arts (http://www.inspirationalarts.ie) are a good pro lab also.
I wouldn’t use prints from a place like Harvey Norman for something as critical as this – get it done professionally!
Cheers,
PeterThorstenMemberIt’s been my experience that pretty much all mini-labs (or any lab using machines like the Fuji Frontiers) will crop an image to one degree or another. The reason for this (and a solution) is explained towards the bottom of this page from DryCreekPhoto – go to the heading “Print Cropping/Suggested Fuji Frontier and Noritsu QSS print sizes” and start reading from there. Lot’s of useful information on this page!
It might also be worth having a look at what the folks over at Bermangraphics have to say.
SashaMemberHi,
I have an exhibition coming up. I just got a strip torn off me for no reason by the owner at the well-known professional printing shop I used last year for my exhibitions. He also slated the former employee who did my prints last year. It was realy most unpleasant.
I am therefore reluctant to give them any money – or waste another day going to Dublin from Galway just to receive abuse. So…. I need a recommendation another professional shop who can print up to 30 x 40 inches in sufficient quality for an exhibition…. Oooh, this stress is just not needed at this stage!!!
Thanks,
ThorstenMemberMight be worth trying Hand Imaging in Mullingar or GMS in Dublin (unless either of them is the lab you were referring to).
Failing that, you’re best option is to use on of the labs in the UK, such as Loxley Colour, One Vision Imaging or Peak Imaging.
ExpresbroParticipantSasha..if you are going to be in Dublin anyway, I’d definitely think about giving Steve (see above) a shout. I’ve seen his set-up and I’m pretty sure he can handle prints that size, and as far as I know other members who have used him for similar stuff have been happy.
Anyway, I better shut up now..I’m starting to sound like his press agent…
Good luck with the exhibition btw.

I’m probably stating the obvious here but Reads of Nassau street is one of the best. but printing photos there is not very hands on, an attendent does all the work.
There’s also a place called ISS, http://www.imagesupplysystems.com, Image Housee, Liberty Lane, Camden Row, Dublin 8. Tel: 01 4782520, Michael Maher knows his stuff.
:-)PaulaParticipantI’ve heard that Reads in Nassau street is ok, good prices, etc but if you are looking for high quality I would go for another printer…
In fact I am looking for one, but in my case I have to find one where I can print big quantities and of course it should be offset.
Good luck with your interview!!stcstcMemberIf its high quality prints, and quality papers you want. I can help you. I do large format inkjet prints on both high quality photo papers, fine art papers and canvas
