Well
Can any of yee wedding shooters recommend any good books on all aspects of wedding shooting… specifically positioning for the formal shots…? I have been persuaded to do a wedding next year and wouldn’t mind getting in some reading. Am also going to go with a professional and get some practice in…!
Cheers
Richie
RobMemberSeconded.
Me too, for next year that is, or next May to be exact. I have some
ideas from looking at websites (and from being married twice myself  )
but a book on the subject would be most useful…Rob.
AllinthemindParticipantMany of the wedding books will tell you about the shots that sell!! You could look at some websites and see the flow of the day, the sort of shots that you’re after and the posing. Don’t get over the top on posing, it’s better to have good relaxed and happy expressions and slightly ragged poses than perfect poses with bored people.
You might want to look at the below link for someone that is recongnised as at the top of the game..

ThorstenMemberI have a number of books on wedding photography and in my opinion, by far one of the best is Contemporary Wedding Photography by Julie Oswin and Steve Walton. It pretty much covers all aspects of wedding photography from first meeting the couple through to dealing with various issues, the wedding itself (obviously) and the post wedding work.
I also recently got my signed copy of The Complete Guide to Professional Wedding Photography,: Creating a More Profitable and Fulfilling Business by Damien Lovegrove. This is an excellent book on two fronts – not only is it full of useful information but it’s a thoroughly enjoyable read as well – you can just feel the passion that the author has for wedding photography!
easParticipantI can second Thorstens recomendation for the Julie Oswin and Steve Walton book.
IOPParticipantThanks Thorsten and EAS, just bought myself both of those. Will let you all know what I think, that’s if the British Post Ofice workers let them through the barricades :) :)

easParticipantthe Julie Oswin and Steve Walton book is genuinely very worth the price. I did find it was a bit lacking on the business aspect, but Thorstens other recommendation sounds like it may fill the gaps just nicely, I just ordered that myself.
This leads me to a suggestion for Mark. Mark, I’ll send a PM with this suggestion as well, but if you’re reading this here it is – (sorry if it’s been suggested before)
Seeing as how books + DVD’s and other materials are recommended on these boards and if the above is an indication of how the recommendation end up as sales for Amazon, why don’t you set up and affiliate ID with Amazon for members to use when ordering? It would generate a bit of income for you to help out in running costs. It may not be much but it does add up, and it’s really free money.

Click this line for the answer
I’d completely forgotten about that until you mentioned it because I actually buy my books from Amazon US (works out cheaper than Amazon UK in spite of shipping costs!).
easParticipantwow – that’s the fastest set up of an Amazon webshop in history. less than 30 seconds! I love it when my suggestions get used with such enthusiasm.
OK – so, I didn’t know that was available., maybe as an extended suggestion, you self-advertise (on this site) that it’s there? I’ll even volunteer to do a couple of banners for you as my way of saying thanks for all the work that you do.
I now see the link for “bookshop” at the top of the page…..typical web use case.
RobMemberExpresbroParticipantI just ordered this one Rob. Gets good reviews anyway and is reasonably priced.I’ll let you know if it’s worthwhile when I get my hands on it :D

richiehatchMemberMe too… one from ‘the book depository’ and one from amazon…! Thanks for the recommendation Thorsten. For your sake I hope they are good…! There will be a few disappointed people here otherwise…!
Thanks again
Richie
neilwhiteParticipantCouldn’t agree more about the Julie Oswin book, have it a wee while now and found it very good.
Just after ordering the Damian Lovegrove one and have read some of his stuff before and he certainly knows his weddings!ExpresbroParticipantDammit…yis are costing me money now…
Just read up on that Damien Lovegrove book and now I have to order it.
I presume it would be as relevant to someone interested in wedding photography in general and not particularly from a business angle?
