Photography equipment for Barretstown Kids camp

Hi All,
I have a really big favour to ask. My family was kindly invited to Barretstown Kids camp last weekend. If you are not familiar with them have a look here http://www.barretstown.org” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;. One of the activities that they offer is photography. This activity was not on our itinerary for that particular weekend but I struck up a conversation with the camp co-ordinator who showed me around their darkroom. They have a lovely darkroom setup with a few film cameras and two enlargers with trays and paper. Unfortunately they have no film, or a way to process any film. Since I have a few point and shoot cameras (I can’t pass up buying orphan cameras in charity shops) I am going to donate them to Barretstown. I will also donate my time to teach the kids how to develop their photographs when they are there. I do have a Paterson tank but it only holds two rolls of 35mm film at most.
I thought I might hit you guys up for donations too. So if you have any of the following items it would be great if you could send them to Barretstown.
1. Processing tanks. The more the better but ideally a couple of 5 roll tanks would be perfect. If you have an extra one send it on.
2. Film. Obviously black and white film for the moment. It doesn’t have to be in date. Expired will do.
3. Cameras. If you have any working point and shoot film cameras that you are not using, just gathering dust. Send them on. They will be used!
4. Your time! It would be great if you have any spare time and darkroom experience. I have just recently learned how to develop b&w but I am at a loss at how to use enlargers and paper to make prints. Just Pm me if you are interested and I will co-ordinate the dates they will be doing a photography activity so we can volunteer.
The address is down below and I will leave the email address for the camp co-ordinator so you can check if this request is legit and not some guy looking to get free gear for his darkroom.
Regards
Eric

thefizzParticipantHi Eric,
Depending on dates, I may be able to volunteer my time to teach printing etc.
I’ll check what equipment I have knocking about and donate some new stuff also.

If you were starting off photography with kids the best bet is pinhole work and photograms, they can even make their own camers with boxes. My son did a course with Amelia Stein in the Childrens ARK in Temple bar a few years back and this was how it was taught. Hope this is helpful. I would also be happy to give my time if you get the project up and running, I’d expect we would need Garda Vetting if working with Children which can take some time to process.
