Photography Under the Influence

So, I did a lot of photography last weekend, at the Blues Festival, in Warrenpoint,
most of it in pubs, a lot of it in the evening, almost all of it, under the influence of alcohol.
Some nights more than others…Yes, yes, I know… I’m such a student (before Mick says it)
Anyway, for the most part it wasn’t an issue, until I got to monday night and maybe just
had 1 Coors light too many, and stayed out half an later than I really should have…I’d shot 3 rolls of film, which I absolutely had to process when I got home, I completely
ruined one of them and half ruined the other (if that makes sense)…This a picture from the half ruined roll
I’ve had some strange advice since this incident, one person advised, driving the negs to an all night lab,
the other seemed to like the picture and advised I look at the possibility of becoming an alcoholic photographer!Was just wondering if anyone else has experience of photography under the influence?

And it is all inclusive I have been shooting away since yesterday and
it’s bloody hard looking at a 2 inch lcd at the back of the camera to when
you are full to the gills with pints of stellaL.O.L so we will have to see when
I get home if I got something worth printing

Sorry Sinead, I don’t like this one at all. It’s too busy, and the ruined development and grain just doesn’t add anything to the picture. The contrast is too high and there is not much detail to be seen. I think, you would be better off quit drinking immediately.
Cathal – tee hee… sounds like we have some interesting pictures to look forward to!
Zoltan – As always, like all advice you give to, I appreciate your thoughts, and I take
you say seriously…Can you offer an alternative to the drink?
btw – I don’t actually drink that much, and no hard stuff (not since that christmas I drank red aftershock,
I threw up in the garden, took almost a year for the grass to grow back) just beer. With ice.Wont comment on the beverage side of things but
I really like this for all the reasons Zoltan pointed out above !

Me too, (except for the sash through the middle, but perhaps that is the big issue).
You could totally be a 60’s photographer.
Nothing wrong with drunken photography, it is nice to get a roll developed and realise the night was more fun than you remember!M
Nice shot!!! You could say that the stripe was flare from the harsh lighting but with your skill and determination you made this moody rendition of how you remembered it…or not! Or you could send it in to one of these ghost buster sites and watch them tell you it was the angel looking over him, or orbs, or sumpink.

I’d thought I might hear a few stories and see some of other peoples drunken accidental photography,
I know I’m not the only ‘under the influence’ photographer out there!justaguy – calories? well, I did do some pretty crazy dancing too, might have helped with that.
Alan – bare feet, he’s from Queensland Australia. I could say that it was a spot light, but nobody would
believe me, I’m a very bad fibber, it’s always obvious when I tell porkies!orbs? wtf!!
Martin – yes, it was nice to remember the fun night, but those negs might have been good too!
A 60’s photographer? Cool! Thank you… jill furmanovsky is probably my favorite music photographers and I frequently find myself looking at the work of Richard Avedon and, jb7 sent me a link to this guy, Frank Petroino his work is pretty stunning.
So, maybe that’s where the retro influence comes from…
But, where are all your drunken stories?

I have many photos taken in an inebriated state, mostly pub pictures of people.
From these examples below I guess I try to be more arty when I’m p1ssed.
Nothing very exciting, but I like them myself. Both Fujifilm 1600 and a lot of alcohol.This I vaguely remember taking, but it was meant to be sharp [drunken manual focus]
and this I have no recollection of taking but from the sequence of negs I figured it was about 5am on my way home from a pub.

Martin – lol! I like both of those, the first especially.
Mick – thanks for those names, initial thoughts about Horst, were I didn’t like it, but the more of them I looked at,
the more I got to like them, some very uncomfortable crops… I really like thisI didn’t know who Landy was either, but I have seen his work, there is a large print of the picture below,
in the Morrision Hotel in Dublin. Fab!Irving Penn’s African Tribal pictures are pretty awesome too.
