Hi Guys, I was looking for some information on Photojournalism, can anyone sugges suitable sites to visit or names to look up.
Any information gratefully received.
John.
ThorstenMemberWhat type of info are you looking for? Techniques, history, sociological..?
wjklewisMemberHi Thorsten, certainly techniques but also a bit of an overview. I have to provide photos for three stories. Story one 1 photo that sets the scene. Story 2 3 Photos and story 3 20 photographs. I want to know what to look for in a news photo, how to set the scene. Also what techniques work best, lens combinations, film types, researching a story.
They dont have to be real stories as this is only a project.
Thanks for the quick response.

markcapilitanParticipantDo a search on Amazon for the book Magnum Stories. It’s a photojournalists bible, containing some of the best photojournalists’ work…ever. Be warned, it’s huge and would take forever to go through, but you will find some excellent stuff in there…..inspiring stuff for a PJ.
Not Pete the blokeParticipantNot Pete the blokeParticipantThis is a fascinating story about a photographer who died on 9/11 but his CF card survived intact and his images basically ‘plot’ his final movements on that fateful day. If you have an EXIF reader, the EXIF info is still contained in the photos so you can see the settings he used on his Canon D30. The EXIF info also provides the precise time of his last photograph, which corresponds with the collapse of one of the towers, suggesting he was killed by falling debris.

wjklewisMemberThanks Guys great stuff keep it coming.
Ross that is a fantastic story, I havent the timeto do it justice right now but look forward to reading it all tomorrow.
Many thanks John
PS even the names of well known PJ’s wouldbe helpful, I would be particurally interested in Irish/N Irish folk
Not Pete the blokeParticipantThe only Northern Irish Magnum photographer that I know of is Donovan Wylie who you may have heard of? He did an exhibition called ‘The Maze’ about the prison a few years ago, and it is now a book. Search for him on Amazon for some books/publications.
Here is his Magnum page link:

Martin Parr (an Englishman) is a well known PJ for Magnum Photos.

SANCHOMemberThat 911 article is so poignant, its great that his memory can live on in his images.
