Photokina News: SanDisk bumps Extreme III CF to 12GB and 16G

First big announcement that I’ve seen coming out of Photokina – SanDisk bumps Extreme III CF to 12GB and 16GB, Ultra II SD to 4GB. Looks like the demise of CF cards predicted by some people is some way of yet!

The Extreme III 12GB and 16GB cards are scheduled to ship in December 2006 at manufacturer’s suggested list prices (MSRP) of US$779.99 and US$1049.99, respectively, in the U.S.

With this kind of price I would just buy a laptop with 100 GB HDD and card reader :D

At least this has made the smaller capacity cards, 2gb and 4gb etc a bit cheaper. No excuse not to pick up a couple of 4gb cards now

Can’t understand why anyone would wanna use that size card! Even on a top spec camera, that’s A LOT of pics to have on one card… I’d rather stick to max 2GB and have a number of cards in case one gets corrupted / damages / lost…

That’s some heft there oin those cards alright. I guess that’s quite some room even for a photojournalist. I’m with you on that one Tim.
