PI Outing – Glendalough Outing 3rd – 4th October
-
PD_BARBSParticipant
I had two objectives for trips this year, the Mournes and Glendalough. On talking to a few folks, we thought an outing to Glendalough would be a good idea.
Thinking about late August, early September, or any other time of year, if anyone can make a suggestion. So this is an initial thread to gauge interest, and then we can tale it from there with respect to organisation.
Let me know if you would be interested and we can get the ball rolling. Also as I know nothing about this area, some local help with respect to planning would be useful.

martinkingphotosParticipantAs it happens I was just down that way yesterday. Loguh Tay is not too far from Glendalough and that
whole area from Sally Gap to Glendalough has plenty of potential. As a guideline Glendalough is 35
miles from Dublin so it is well within reach for lots of members both in Dublin and elsewhere. Our camera club did an outing there last December. We drove down from Swords (near dublin airport) to
Glendalough arriving at 7am. Had a few hours of photography, went back to Laragh for breakfast and
back home for 1pm.
I’d definitely be interested in an outing to this area.
Martin.5faytheParticipantHi Peter,
Hopefully the day selected will suit and I can
come along.Cheers,
John.
BallymanParticipantDo NOT go to Glendalough on a Sunday in the summer. The traffic and congestion has to be seen to be believed. It will take hours to get in there and the same again to get out of there, that’s if you don’t go demented sitting in your car in the meantime!!
If you can at all then head there midweek when the crowds are minimal. Saturday can be pretty bad also but nothing like on a sunday.
martinkingphotosParticipantHave to agree with Ballyman….it was mental around the car parks there yesterday.
But if we are talking later in the year (and possibly early morning) it should be ok.MarkKeymasterSounds great Peter, love to visit there myself. Add me to the list.
Would it good to check with Ken on the West Cork trip so that dates don’t clash ;)
kenhParticipantGood idea Mark,
Peter, we are planning for Aug 22,
and I’d like to get to Glendalough as well (was there 4 weeks ago and it was stunning!)
PD_BARBSParticipantGood point Mark,
That rules out late August to avoid a clash with the Cork trip, so we are likely looking at September, which should help avoid the bloody tourists.
I think a weekend would suit best for most people with an overnight stay in a hostel or somewhere, so let me know what you think

Will you take your camera out this time Steve
stcstcMemberossie13ParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantI should be up for that depending on the weekend. Obviously Wexford will be busy for the first weekend in September beating the living bejaysus out of another hurling county  . I’d probably travel rather than stay but that should be OK, shouldn’t it? There’s so many new faces to meet up with and the last time I was in Glendalough I was 10. Has it changed much (I’m in my late 20’s now)?
Alan.
PixelleMemberThere are a few boardwalks round the place so more places are accessible :0)
Some nice restaurants as well.
October would be good for the deer, but whichever – put me down, it’s just up the road.
