I’m pretty sure the hostel and the upper lake car park are literally a 5 min straight walk from one another… they are on the same road and there’s only the one road.
Great…you’re driving so! Last time I was there was in a bus with 36 other 9 year olds.
MikkaParticipantI would recommend the Upper Lake car park even though it costs €4 parking fee as a meetup point, it’s really not too far from the Youth Hostel for those who are staying overnight. You are then located between the Upper and Lower lakes. If you are down for the 2 days you could go walking from here down via the Lower lake on into the historical area (Round tower, churches, etc) on day 1 and depending on conditions you could go in the other direction via the Upper Lake to the Miners Village or up to the Spinc via the 600 steps on day 2………Mikka

That sounds good to me, so we can aim to meet at the visitors carpark at around 10-10:30
cathaldParticipantWhats the story with somewhere to eat on the sat nite
any pubs or restaurants around the areanfl-fanParticipantThere’s a pub a few mins walk from the hostel…
I got well p*ssed in there many moons ago… and slept in the car afterwards.
Pretty sure they do food… but not 100% certain.
Few villages around too… 10 mins in a car will get you somewhere.
J

Well done Cathal :) Can’t have a PI event without a few pints :D
just a half of shandy or something
b318ispParticipantGuys, I’m not going to make the Saturday due to football matches for the kids. I’ll catch up with ye on Sunday morning – I’ll just need to know when and where.
PD_BARBSParticipantNo problem
The overnighters will probably try for a sunrise, depending on the hangovers. I will probably be shooting off home after lunch, not sure what the others are doing.
For those late comers looking for accommodation, I will check with the hostel to see if anymores available. I will be happy to sleep in the car, atleast then I avoid the snooring, farting, talking to yourself and other antics common to a dorm.
Looking forward to meeting alot of the folks here, just hope the weather holds out.
KWBarbsParticipantLooking forward to this.
Peter – there have been a few good suggestions etc posted over the past few weeks. Are you colllating these or is it more of a read-it-yourself-you-lazy-git approach?
steelydanParticipantIs it Saturday or Sunday the day trippers and weekends are to meet??
Whats the final plans regarding teaming up ( beginners with advanced) or are we going to do our own thing?

Happy enough for someone else to finalise the arrangements. It will be Tuesday before I get near a computer again.
But here is the suggestions:
Lower lake,
Upper lake,
Monastic village
miners village.
The view over the monastic village from the Spink up the hill
Theres a few walks up above glendalough (someone chip in here)Then theres some a little further afield (edited to put in approx mins drive from glendalough)
Wicklow gap / st kevins (5 mins)
Sally Gap (15-20 mins)
The waterfall at Glenmacnass (5-10 mins)
Waterfall called Poulanass, beside the Upper Lake.
Clara Vale & Avondale (I guess autumn won’t quite be in full force but its a pretty spot) (about 20 mins to avondale)
Vale of Avoca (not sure… about 20 mins?)
Powerscourt waterfall (small charge to get in but good photo ops) (30 mins maybe a bit less)
Devils Glen (for the wellies & woolly water brigade) (20 mins)
Mount Usher Gardens (again a charge but plenty of plants to shoot if you’re into plants) (20 mins)We will meet at the carpark for the Upper Lake at 10ish on the Saturday. We can then decide if we want to break into groups based on John’s suggestion.
mmcirelandParticipantGlendalough fills with Tourists early in the morning so the best option is to head away from the main tourist sites and return to them late afternoon or at first light on Sunday morning as it gets hard to get a shot without people in it.
EamonODParticipantHi Cathal,
is the offer of a lift still going?
If so, I’d really appreciate it. Also notice that you’re staying over night which is good for me too.
I’ll also publish this on the group.
Although this is my first PI trip I ran into you guys on the Saltees trip.
And someone from Dongal asked me to take a photo of him and his two buddies just before leaving the island.
Was that yourself?Cheers,
Eamon
