sat or sun for meetup for daytrippers?
if it’s early start sunday the upper lake carpark is central to monastic and the main walks – costs €4 but worth it i reckon plus it has tea soup food drinks etc. and toilets – which are always welcome after a few hours out and about. any of the other places are fine too if people plan on heading off elsewhere
stcstcMemberthe upper carpark i belive isnt open till 9 so if you want to go earlier you need to park around there somewhere
ImagineParticipantHey, you can put me down, for both days.
I’m staying in the hotel around the corner as the hostel was booked out. Only €49 with breakfast so not bad.
I live in the Dun Laoghaire area and happy to give anyone who needs one a list down and/or back.
Darren.

Hi Cathal,
is the offer of a lift still going?
If so, I’d really appreciate it. Also notice that you’re staying over night which is good for me too.
I’ll also publish this on the group.
Although this is my first PI trip I ran into you guys on the Saltees trip.
And someone from Dongal asked me to take a photo of him and his two buddies just before leaving the island.
Was that yourself?Cheers,
Eamon
http://www.flickr.com/photos/downrightimages/Should not be a problem Eamon as long as you can put up with Sean farting all the way down
If any of the Belfast guys want to pick you up also that’s not a problem
I will be in touchCathal
KWBarbsParticipantEamon,
I think that I getting a lift from Peter (with a full car). But if not I will be leaving from Belfast so I’ll step in and give you a lift down, other than that I’m afraid it’s Cathal’s love wagon. I shoud know later today.
Kieran.
EamonODParticipantThanks alot Keiran,
sure we’ll see how the week transpires and I might even pluck up the courage and drive myself :)
Cheers,
EamonMr.HParticipantOk, I have my plans sorted out now. I’ll be there on Sunday. If the weather is anywhere near decent I’ll try and get out there for sunrise and some early morning light. Any early risers would be welcome to join me (although I appreciate there may be headaches all-round for those staying over). I guess there may be a few takers here, and then we can meet with the main group at an arranged time (10ish was suggested above). I’ll need to sneak a breakfast in somewhere inbetween.
As already mentioned above, Glendalough can get a bit busy with daytrippers, especially on a Sunday, so I am quite happy to group up and go a bit further afield as Sunday morning rolls along. I’ll have to head off soon after Lunch as I am working in the UK next week.
Given the fact that things can get busy on Sundays I would suggest doing the main sites like the monastic village on Saturday, or as mmcireland sugests early or late in the day.
Weather looks a bit changeable and quite cold according to accuweather.
looking forward to it.
Gary
PD_BARBSParticipantSounds good to me Gary,
I will be up for an early start on Sunday to catch a sunrise, so if anyone can suggest a good spot for that it would be good.
Looking forward to it.
Mr.HParticipantTheres not too much opportunity for ‘into the sun’ sunrises from glendalough itself, as theres a fairly big hill in the way. However if you want to try something like peter gordons recent misty shot, then I would suggest meeting at 7 or maybe 7:15 in the lower car park, and we’ll try and find a decent vantage point.
The other option is to wait a little later for the sun to rise a bit above the hill and try and get your own variation on the traditional upper lake shot when the light is good. I think 7:45 in the upper car park is more than enough time as the light will probably start livening liven up at about 8:15ish.
We can probably try and do both!
Sunrise is 7:32. It look like theres a good chance of a reasonably clear morning, but it may be a bit too breezy for a mist or a mirrored lake. However it is well sheltered so we’ll see how it goes. Also I don’t know how accurate accuweather really is!
JMac-2006ParticipantWas starting to wonder what people were thinking time wise and any plans
i’d be up for an early start – I live in tallaght so could be there for 7 – probably need to be heading by lunchtime aswell so an early start might suit best – I am keeping an eye on the weather too as forecast is changing every day sunday was looking good but now not so sure – usually it should be more accurate by friday

EamonSorry Eamon – I’ll be hopping a lift myself. So I can’t help out this time.

Is this Sat or Sun? My weekend is getting very complicated so an early start seems the only option.
Alan RossiterParticipantSorry folks, I have to withdraw from the weekend. Sorry for the short notice but enjoy yourselves.

Sorry to hear that Alan, I was looking forward to meeting you, but we may get other opportunities.
martinkingphotosParticipantJust saw on http://www.wicklowmountainsnationalpark.ie/ that this Sunday is National Trails day.
I’d imagine that would mean there will be a few more people around Glendalough than normal.
Just to let you know.Hopefully I’ll be at home on Sunday going through the photos from a successfull day out in Glendalough
on the Saturday.
Martin.
