Hi, PD. I will be in the daytripper section as I live not too far away, thanks.

If anyone else is interested and needs accomodation, can you let me know otherwise I will drop one of the rooms from the booking. I have enough accomodation for 16 people, certainly don’t need that much at the moment.

    Thanks

I count 33 people, and just had a thought.

Normally on an outing and in a large group, there are members that will link up and head off in small separate groups and shoot whatever they see. In other words, it will be highly unlikely that all 33 will head off shooting the same scenes/same direction etc.

I was just wondering if there were any beginners, that would like to gain some experience from the advanced photographers?? If there are some that intend going and would like to tag with me and some others, send me a PM

The reason I am thinking this way is, as a beginner you are not going to say “can I go with you ,and watch what you are doing”

Some people are naturally shy, quiet, etc and the worse this is to have an individual left to his/her own devices, especially on a outing.

Of course there are some members here that are the opposite .

I hope I have explained myself or have people made sense of what I am trying to say , and what do people think?

Excellent idea John !. It can be quite daunting for some people to turn up to a PI gathering.

Good point John. I personally know no one here face to face! I have a good idea of the principles of landscape shooting, but understand I have a lot to learn. I’m also more than happy to help others.

The problem I have is identifying who I can learn from and who I could help. I’d also be conscious of not overburdening the really good guys!

As a suggestion, would it be worthwhile breaking into groups of maybe 6 or so? If we could get a cross section of people in these groups it may work really well. In order to do that, the abilities of each person would need to be known – perhaps by asking people if they are beginners/intermediate/advanced on landscape photography?

I think that is an excellent idea,

As I have been to Glendalough, it would be good if some of the more knowledgable locals could identify the places worth seeing, then we could work out the groups.

We could all meet up at the start of the day for introductions, and sort the groups out and possible later on for a mineral water or something.

It would be nice to tag along with people I haven’t met yet.

We could ask anyone that knows the area pretty well (is John Griffin still active??) I think he was the park Ranger for Glendalough??

Make our a map of “Must see” places

    Break the group into 6’s

Each group pick a spot on the map

Then rotate during the 2 days or one day if a Daytripper

Note the 2 Day people will probably better off sticking together (knackered running around to cover all areas in 1 day)

People can choose to shoot all on the map or whatever types of photography you like (macro etc) or simply dont bother with the map and do your own thing

I’m sure we could get a decent list of sites between us or some suggestions for 1/2 day trips, but would be interested in in John Griffins inside track also.

Heres some to start us off… Feel free to add to or amend the list for corrections.

    Theres the obvious glendalough locations

    Lower lake,
    Upper lake,
    Monastic village
    miners village.
The view over the monastic village from the up the hill (someone help here)
Theres a few walks up above glendalough (someone chip in here)

Then theres some a little further afield (edited to put in approx mins drive from glendalough)

Wicklow gap / st kevins (5 mins)
    Sally Gap (15-20 mins)
The waterfall at (hmmm glenmaclass??? – someone correct me) (5-10 mins)
Clara Vale & Avondale (I guess autumn won’t quite be in full force but its a pretty spot) (about 20 mins to avondale)
Vale of Avoca (not sure… about 20 mins?)
Powerscourt waterfall (small charge to get in but good photo ops) (30 mins maybe a bit less)
Devils Glen (for the wellies & woolly water brigade) (20 mins)
Mount Usher Gardens (again a charge but plenty of plants to shoot if you’re into plants) (20 mins)

I’ll probably only do a single day trip but quite happy to ‘guide’ (in the loosest sense) one of the trips further afield.

Pretty comprehensive list, Gary. I just added a couple of things.

    Lower lake,
    Upper lake,
    Monastic village
    miners village.
The view over the monastic village from the Spink up the hill
Theres a few walks up above glendalough (someone chip in here)

Then theres some a little further afield (edited to put in approx mins drive from glendalough)

Wicklow gap / st kevins (5 mins)
    Sally Gap (15-20 mins)
The waterfall at Glenmacnass (5-10 mins)
Waterfall called Poulanass, beside the Upper Lake.

Parking at Mt Usher is non-existent at weekends.
